Novaks family offer a great insight into the delusion the rich and famous sometimes live in. His dad compared his son being stuck in a shitty hotel without his phone to Jesus being nailed to the cross. His mother described his victory in court as a greater achievement than any of his grandslams.

What I mean is, there's a lot of 'one or two hit wonders' in the women's game. I'm not taking anything away from these winners,  but there's not been anyone since the Williams sisters who've truly dominated the game in the last 20 years despite being hailed as a player who could.

Everyone talking about how Raducanu and Fernandez will contest many more finals. They could easily burn out like so many before them.

I take no pleasure in quoting myself.

I hope Emma takes a bit of a break and comes back all guns blazing next time

To be fair, the Williams sisters were a once in a generation phenomena.

It's disappointing Emma has gone out of the Aus Open already. Blistered hand contributing to her defeat, hmmm, not sure I could agree.

There's just a nagging feeling at the back of my mind she dumped her coach and signed some big sponsorship deals a little bit too soon although obviously, being presented with contracts that give you fabulous wealth at any age are going to be nigh on impossible to turn down.

Stating the obvious but she needs to string a run of results together even if that means entering some 'minor' tournaments for a little while.

Did you watch it? She spent half the match slicing every forehand because she couldn't hit the ball properly.

She could hardly hit her forehand, her best weapon, due to the blister on her hitting hand so it definitely contributed today.

Agree on the concern over her endorsements, hopefully they won't cause her to lose focus.  Don't agree on the coach situation it was only ever a temporary arrangement.

People seem to forget that she literally came from nowhere, she had no right to win the US Open at that stage in her career.  She was never, ever, going on to win multiple Slams straight away. What's happening in her career and with results right now would be entirely expected with someone who only joined the tour 7 months ago.  In fact she is far exceeding expectations.

What a final, fit to grace any Slam at any point in history. And what an athlete Nadal is, physically and mentality. He is just fucking brilliant.

Second longest slam final in history. 21 vs 20 and 20. That final was up there with Nadal v Federer at Wimbledon in 08. Not quite as good but as close as I've seen in a final I think.
