My favourite Jazz Musician is Jaco Pastorius. I could sit listening to him on Bass all day and night and nobody was anywhere near as good as him. He is the greatest Bass player this planet has ever seen.

Utter utter genius and dying at just 35 robbed us of what would of been many years of sheer brilliance.

Actually, Miles Davis composed his song 'Mr Pastorius' In honour of Jaco not long after he was Killed.

I know im replying to an 11 year old post, but...

The Drummer Peter Erksine's autobiography/account of Weather Report gives a really good account of Jaco's state of mind in his final years.

Was quite a revealing read.

Mad that he'd never had a drink before Joe Zawinul offered him one around the time he joined Weather Report. What a waste.

I think just being in a band with Joe Zawinul would drive you to drink in itself!

True.

I'm not a big fan of the Jaco incarnation of Weather Report to be honest, Tale Spinnin' is the last LP I really like by them.

Back on topic, My Funny Valentine is my favourite Miles Davis album, it blows me away every time I put it on.
