Mascherano,Momo,Gerrard and Alonso.Next season at least one of them will be spending more time on the bench than in the team and i cant see any of them being happy with it.Should we sell one of them and invest the money on other areas of the team were we are not so strong? And which of the four would you be willing to let go if any?

Momo is boss but not world class yet, Masherano is excellent but hasn't proved it here in a run of games. Alonso and Gerrard have proved that they can play together and I'd expect to see them play in most game especially at home. Maybe Rafa will play 3 together so one out with injuries/suspension or whatever sounds about right. The whole point of the investment was for more money so I'd hope we don't have to balance the books.

We've got 2 in Alonso and Gerrard with great potential for the other 2.

If you could somehow combine Momo and Mascherano into one, we'll be sorted.

Momo really needs to sort out his wayward passing in order to get anywhere near world class and Mascherano needs time to settle, but from what I saw on Saturday, it's very encouraging.

Momo isn't top class yet, but he will be if he can improve his passing and Mascherano will be as soon as he gets some more Premiership experience. The future is bright.

I'm even thinking we actually don't need the wingers everyone keeps going on about. Why not play 4-3-3/4-5-1 with the players we have available and maybe if we can get Alves we'll have a right back that likes to come forward more often and with Riise and Aurelio on the left we already got that on the left?

Then all we need is that striker that can score more often. Maybe even he's already at the club.

"We've got 4 world class centre midfielders"

I wouldn't go that far. Two at best. Would probably only say one personally and he's out of form. Another two with potential possibly.

So who is the out of form world class player? Are you saying Xavi and Gerrard is not WC. Or are you saying SG is out of form?

Maybe not all world class but I get your point.

Momo is the best defensive midfielder in the world, nobody is better at breaking up the opposition play, unfortunately he is hopeless in possession-half a player.

Alonso can be sold for £20m if the papers are to be believed-at that price I'd sell, Mascherano can do his job.

Gerrard I presume was not one of the candidates to be sold, he is the best player in the world never mind best centre-midfielder.

If I'm brutally honest then I don't think Alonso is world class, although he's a fucking excellent player and is probably one of the two best "pivot" players (as the Italians call it) around. That's a very specialist position though, and I'm not sure either he or Pirlo would make it into one of two world sixteens (which is how i would define world class). For him to be world class I think he would have to increase his pace and stamina and contribute more going forward.

I think Gerrard has to be called world class, mainly for his drive and versatility, although he has not been world class over the course of this season, hence he's the out of form world class player I referred to.

These are just my opinions, you're perfectly entitled to disagree.

To call Steven Gerrard world class is an insult to the genuine world class players we've had at the club.

He's a good player.

Depends on how you define "world class". In my opinion he isn't, how can he be "world class" if he can't get a regular game for Spain.

Do you think Alan Hansen was world class?

Don't you have to look at it in the context of current players? I don't think there's a team in the world, international teams included, who wouldn't want him in their squad.

Agree with all of that

Steven Gerrard is the best midfielder I've seen play for Liverpool, I go back to the last few years of Souness. I think if you asked "the genuine world class players we've had at the club" they'd agree with that too.

That's more to do with hype than anything else, and says a lot about the drop in standards of modern players.

If one of these top clubs did buy him he wouln't play in central midfield for a start.

I don't think I'm affected by the hype mate, I like to think it's what I see with my own eyes. Maybe you're being a bit sentimental for the past greats?

I disagree with that as well (although it's a moot point) I think Gerrard would play centre mid for any other team in the world. Chelsea were going to certainly play him there. Ferguson wanted him to play there to replace Keane. etc.

I think I would still prefer Souness in his prime, but Souness and Gerrard together would have been awesome, and I rarely use that word.
