Bloody hell

The Italian island of Sicily may have registered the hottest temperature ever recorded in Europe - 48.8C (119.8F).

Regional authorities reported the reading, which needs to be verified by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), near Syracuse on Wednesday.

According to the WMO, the current official record in Europe is 48C, registered in Athens, Greece, in 1977.

How ironic for the hottest temperature to occur in a place containing the word ICILY

It's all smoke and mirors anyway. We've always been burning coal, it's just we get the Chinese to burn it for us when they're making junk on our behalf. Everyone gets to pretend they're green and above board while offshoring the pollution to Asia.

We're opening a new coal mine apparently.

No seriously.

Should be the first of many and sadly this one is to produce coking coal for steel production not provide power to people's homes. This country should be self sufficient in cheap energy not gone backwards to the 19th Century when ordinary people had to shiver to death in the midsts of winter. Yes, seriously.

Climate change should undoubtedly be top of the agenda for every government in the world for the sake of the generations that follow us, but global warming? It's fucking freezing.

It is freezing Harry, quite rightly. People will start rioting and taking to the streets when the £300+ bills start dropping through the letter box and they have to suffer hours of power and heating cuts.

As a contrarian I've often wouldn't how scientists and governments would behave if the planet was cooling and we were entering an ice age. Would they be encouraging us to get out and burn everything we can to warm up the planet? A flamethrower for every home to keep the ice at bay?

Overheard someone moaning about the cold earlier today, saying it was ridiculous. It's MEANT to be fucking cold in winter FFS. The world's population is getting dumber by the day.

The idea that we should be opening up coal mines and building coal fired power stations is mental.

Who is going to work down a fucking coal mine nowadays.  Incredibly dangerous and completely unnecessary.

I see he’s gone on a negging spree so just looking for my jesters hat and asking Google where my arse is.

The absence of coal mines has got nothing to do with the current cluster fuck.

We should have been building more infrastructure, wind, solar, tidal, nuclear, anything ahead of this toxic shite.

I see the pot bellied, 50 year old egotistical narcissistical coward reached for the red first.

You talk utter shite. I bet your bar bill the other day was bigger than what some lads on here earn in a month. Did I mention you're the biggest fucking hypocrite on here? it's your fucking party that gave the go ahead for the mine, you fucking shill.

Have you been drinking again?

I don’t have a ‘party’.  I disagree with opening the mine, you seem to agree with the party you pretend to hate.

Anyway, nuclear and renewables is the future, we need to invest in it quickly and not allow the schemes to be slowed down by endless planning objections.

green hypocrisy is everywhere. Anyone who gest a short haul flight or drinks imported bottled water from a plastic bottle.

The output will be used in steel production as a substitute for imported coal. It's got nothing to do with energy generation.

Bollocks.

85% is due to be sold overseas and the rest is unlikely to produce any steel. This is just further daylight robbery of taxpayers money by Tory backers based in the Caymans.
