Duff - call me a cynic but ...

he has said he will sign a contract next week which is going to effectively be 31st august 2002 - closing date for transfer window

presuming he is on say 10k per week now and signs a new contract for 30k per week - he will get an extra £350k plus signing on fee if he were to stay at blackburn until 1st january 2003

so unless he moves before 31st august 2002 there is no incentive for him to not sign a new contract for blackburn even if he intends to leave in january

Lpool will be looking at the fee to buy him now and the fee to buy him in January (assuming a new contract has been signed) and be taking a view

any thoughts ???

[%sig%]

ripped us apart last season in the pre-season tournie in Amsterdam playing as a left winger - Ajax have been playing him in the hole pre-season (I went to see the Norwich-Ajax game) and he looked good there too.

Rated extremely highly by Ajax. Also thought their right winger Van Der Meyde was classy.

Positive LFC spin? I was told 3 weeks back that a full scouting team was going over and watch the lad play in the game on the weekend .....

Souness will think he can hold onto him indefinitely. The only way Liverpool can buy him is if Souness is pressured into it by his Board.New contract equals no pressure and we may as well move on.

Now about that Ajax player?:-)

Leets put it this way if Duff signs a new contract that is it on buying him for atleast 3 years due to the new transfer rules (unless Rovers were to put him on the transfer list which is unlikely).

Under new rules any players who have signed a new contract after September 1st 2001 cannot move within the first 3 years of their new contract. If they were to do so then they would be banned from football for a minimum of 4 months and the team buying him would be punished aswell as they will be classed as inducing the player to move. This, I think, deals with a player asking for a transfer or a bid coming in for a player when he is not on the transfer list. I am unsure what happens when the club put the player on the transfer list.

I know most supporters are adamant that we need to BUY a world class winger, but why has everyone been so silent on giving Partridge a genuine run in the side. I saw him in the reserves a few times last year and he looks like someone who, although not fully developed in terms of his potential yet, could do a job for us...

Anyone?
