Went to see it at Fact last Friday. Di Caprio is actually not that bad in it. Nicholson and Walberg are superb. The start is brilliant as well, Gimme Shelter comes on virtually after 5 seconds and you are gripped. Not one of Scorcese's best films but then it's still good and you get the impression he hasn't really tried that hard.

Quite fancy seeing a film there, do you reccomend it?

Being a lover of Martin S films I’m looking forward to seeing it. Shame that all his recent films have stared that annoying kid from Titanic though!, thought he drowned or something.

But yeah, looking forward to seeing it, thanks for the heads up.

I saw it last Friday.

It's excellent as is Di Caprio-he's no mere 'kid from titantic' based on this & The Aviator.

Wahlberg is very good, and Jack is......Jack as usual!

I enjoyed it, but couldn't really love it as I've seen the original and therefore knew what was going to happen. Leonardo Di Caprio has finally stopped looking like a skinny, fresh-faced teenage boy - now he looks like a fat and knackered teenage boy.

I think all the "Scorsese will finally get his Oscar" talk is arse, though. The last truly great thing he did was Goodfellas, and if he didn't win for that or Raging Bull, he ain't gonna get anything other than a sympathy vote for this.

Oscar wins aren't always based on the quality of the work for which they have been nominated (although personally I loved this it is no Goodfellas) - look at Newman and Pacino winning for The Color of Money and Scent of a Woman respectively. Think Scorsese will win for his body of work rather than solely on the merits of The Departed.

Good film but I reckon Jack is doing a lot of carrying for the rest of the cast. I heard that Wahlberg was some really ace hard-edge cop but you hardly see him.

Got to say that the boy knows how to direct though; and I fucking loved the opening sequence although you could put absolutely anything to Gimme Shelter and it would look amazing. Putting Jack's voice over the top just ruled.

Quite liked the Van cover, a bit different and it was put in at the right place, summed up De Caprio's character well at that point.

Gotta love Scorcese's abiltiy to kill people really suddenly without any "drama" to it.

ah go shite, the film was fucking brilliant

seen it 2 weeks ago now, i was too young to see any other of scorseses films in the cinema so the real "great" like goodfellas ,the godfather, films that are renound as the best, i never got to see, this is the first film i can honestly say is on par with them,

people slag handi-caprio off, but the fella is always in good films(bar tha gangs of new york crap), he played a savage part in this, as did Maaaaat Daaaaaamon, brilliant film, absolutly loved it, great to see us paddies in a ganster flick instead of the usual italianos

Martin Scorsese should have died after he made Goodfellas knowing that he would never be able to top that film. Then he should have came back to life to make Casino and come very close to the greatness of Goodfellas. Then die again.
