Skysports.com understand talks are at an advanced stage between the two parties, but Liverpool are yet to decide whether to finalise a move.

 

Trabelsi is keen on the switch and is thought to have made Anfield his preferred destination.

 

Coach Rafa Benitez has been actively pursuing Sevilla's Daniel Alves - but that move looks to have faltered, which may well have hastened his move for out-of-contract Trabelsi.

 

Trabelsi seems set to leave Ajax and following an impressive display at the World Cup finals - a move to England appears the most likely option at this point.

 

Arsenal are also known to have contacted Trabelsi's advisors - but the Liverpool interest is the furthest forward.

I think its farily obvious were using him as an alternative to Alves and should this not work we will sign him, cant see us signing Alves and Trabelsi or poor old Finnan might even be looking foir another club if both Alves and Trabelsi signed

But (playing Devils' advocate, as Steve Finnan was by far the best RB in the country last year) who would you prefer if they were playing at the top of their abilities?

But Alves is being brought in to play right wing and would only cover at right back if needed.. as for warming the bench, I'm pretty sure that Rafa will point out that nobody is going to be playing all the games, so it's a case of liking it, if they are not happy about that then no deal, simple as that.

I don't see why the signing of Alves would affect Trabelsi coming because Alves will be going rid midfield no? Kromkamps offski and we'll have 1 full back, even Barragans supposedly being offered to clubs or going to Depor on loan and Trabelsi is on a bosman so no transfer fee. If he wants Alves to cover both right mid and Right back then to me it's a bit daft as it's stretching the squad and weakening an already weak area of the team....
