This has been discussed before, however i recently purchased pickled onion space raiders for the first time since my bollocks dropped - top stuff. I'm preasantly torn between them and cheese squares. (indeed, it could be argued that I'm undergoing a renaisance as far as crisps are concerned)

All of this new fangled foil-packed posh flavour tomfoolery with Charlotte Church in the adverts, bollocks to it.

Why don't they make cheese hula-hoops anymore in the cheese coloured packet? Rather than the cheese and onion?

Anyone remember when McCoys first came out and were just plain Cheddar?

Ahhh those were the days etc etc....

A bit too 'new wave' for my tastes, like flavoured Vodka - I'm too old to make adjustments to my pallete at this late stage - I want it simple and to the point, and classically refined (like Ringos). The absolute furthest I'm willing to go on this is Chile McCoys - but only when nobody is watching.

Smith's salt and vinegar chip sticks, the cousin of the square, is also a great crisp.

Is it just me that eats them one by one but saves them in their mouth, just to see how many I can take. Cheeks bulging like a hamster. It's great. Then one mighty tasty gulp at the end. Proud as fuck of myself when I do that. If you're real hardcore, you can do a couple of packets.

This thread should also delve into the unique way you eat certain crisps. In addition to the hamster style of the chipstick, I often bite off the toes of the foot shaped picked onion monster munch, leaving a toeless stump.

Also the gayest crisp. Surely the frazzle.

Thats the kind of thing i'd brag about if i ever ended up in Prison or the SAS - hence my belief i'm not suited to either environment.

If we're talking methods of eating particular crisps - then we're talking hula-hoops round the fingers all the way, although the stubiness of my now adult fingers creates problems.

Alternatively try buying a bag of plain Hula Hoops and cheesey Wotsits. Place a Hula Hoop around a Wotsit for a delightful combo cheese sandwich effect.

Call me an old romantic, but Crisps should be in packets which rustle, never in a cardboard tube.

and it should be a plastic packet that you can put under the grill afterwards and shrink to the size of a stamp, not one of those fancy "flavour locked in" foil efforts.

Is it frowned upon to tear the packet down the centre, straighten it out and then lick the inside clean of it's flavours. Mighty satisfying in a strong flavoured crisp.

However you do tend to look back in disgust, as droplets of spit cover the freshly licked packet. Especially if it has foil on the inside a la Monster Munch.

In terms of specialised ways of eating crisps, it is satisfying to actually crush a wotsit into your front teeth without actually biting it. It crumbles and sticks to them and takes a good deal of concentrated effort to lick free. This kind of tongue training tends to benefit the ladies in your life. Stamina unsurpassed.

There is a pitfall to the wotsit though. Occassionally you suffer what I like to call the atomic wotsit. This phenomenom occurs when you bite into a stodgy bit of pure wotsit, usually at the bottom of the packet amogst the crumbs. There is no crunch there, just a disgusting taste of a wotsit condensed by the gravity of what I claim to be a kind of potato snack black hole. Has anyone experienced this?

I have befallen the fate of the atomic wotsit.

Current favourites: prawn cocktail wotsits, Brannigan's ham & mustard, mango & chilli / balsamic vinegar kettle chips, cheese & onion frisps, hot monster munch

Past masters: salt & vinegar monster munch, KP beef, Golden Wonder sausage & tomato / fried onion (from the seventies), tomato flavour snaps

Walkers seem a bit sterile nowadays
