I don't think that one's correct. The time was 1,196 minutes according to Rothman's.

Is coincidentally Sao Paolo's manager, and his place will probably be surpassed on Sunday

Same name different person. Leao the goalkeeper is dead.

Maybe not actually. I'm sure I read in World Soccer about 10 years ago that the Leao who kept goal for Brazil in the World Cup had died in a car crash.

The stats are correct - they relate to League games only. Woods larger total includes other competitions.

So with only 7 league games that leaves us well short. That one at the top is about 20 league games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rothman's states "all competitive games" but has the run ending on 31-1-87, one week before the figures you've quoted.

Been trying to find the all competitive games record for ages but there doesn't appear to be anywhere definitive with it. Rothmans refers to Chris Woods 1196 as a British record for all competitive games.

For instance from the league list above (compiled by the IFFHS):

Petr Cech AC Sparta Praha Ceská Republika 20.08.2001-17.11.2001 903

His overall record is longer and runs to 1120 minutes in all games for Sparta.
