didn't like the da vinci code - read like a low-fat version of foucault's pendulum. anyone into conspiracies with the masons/knights templar/catholic church should read some umberto eco first. and while we're on hooligan history books, anyone read 'cocky' - re. curtis warren, the charming little scamp that he is? horrible little cunt by all accounts, and his neck genuinely seems to be fatter than his head. good read though.

Or borrow it as I did, don't buy it and fill the pockets of somebody shaming the name of LFC with fabricated stories. We drove one publication out of Merseyside for doing that.

That's well out of order for the obvious reason, and I hardly think the book will "fill the pockets" for another.

Artistic licence in places, maybe not all firsthand, some stories that grew in the telling perhaps. But a lot of that stuff went on.

It's a particular view of what it was like going to the match in those days. It's not everybody's view. It's not what everybody experienced. It's just one piece of a much bigger picture.

just finishing it aint about the bike by lance armstrong, bit of an old book, but a great read, even made me go out and by racing tubes and tyres for me mountain bike

Its an inspirational story. An inspirational guy. Le tour was once a must see for me (now I catch highlights if I can). But whats he's done on a bike, in that race, in those conditions is amazing.

Sorry I was a little abrupt there. None of it is believable and my impression of the book is that you are supposed to believe that all these things are real and fact etc. I'm sure there is some foreword at the start along these lines. There was a documentary on a while back as well which totally blows all these "factual" things in the book apart. The reason it seems farcical is that it feels as though Brown is simply making things up to get the characters out of situations, but they are totally unbelievable and we are supposed to swallow it all as 'fact' or something. Sorry - I don't think I'm making my point very well!

There's something aboot Lance Armstrong that irks me. Dunno what it is. Perhaps that he dumped his wife for sheryl crow, or that his sport is dirty (not that he cheats). It's all very inspirational stuff how he beat cancer, but many people don't win the battle with cancer and other diseases. Their stories are just as important. And often never told. His chances of beating his cancer battle also increased greatly because he could afford health care.

But any fecker, yet alone a Texan dressed in gay bicycle shorts (they have a pink polka dot shirt as well the yellow one??) that can win that marathon on fivetimes is a pretty darn good athelete.

And why wasn't he arrested for drink driving- if I rode down the Champs Elysee with a champagne glass they'd throw me in the klink.
