Fixed that for you Scott!

It can only be Saint-Étienne or Inter Milan that beats it. And I wasn’t born for those two.

So I’ll rephrase from when I started going - Anfields greatest atmosphere since 1990.

Narh, Barca was better than Chelsea.  Just.

Chelsea was on a different scale. The Kop was bouncing for 45 minutes before kick off, and then literally shaking at the end. My ears were still ringing the next morning.

Barcelona was magic for different reasons (there wasn't the hatred, and no one expected us to win), but the passion versus Chelsea is something I've never experienced.

I expected us to win. And win we did.

A vote for the 2005 Semi v Chelsea.

I’ll, of course, bow to older posters who may have attended the Inter Milan and/or St. Etienne games if they tell me differently, but I’ve never before, or since, experienced an Anfield atmosphere (inside or outside the ground) that reached the levels it did and was sustained for as long as it was.

Maybe other games touched the heights, some for lengthy periods, but that Chelsea game tops them all. I consider myself extremely lucky to have experienced it.

There was a video on YouTube a while back - might still be there, but I can't find it - of the final whistle without Sky's commentary. All the jokes about turning it up to 11 seem inadequate when faced with that detonation. I wasn't around for Inter or St-Etienne, but I know those were great Liverpool teams. The 2005 crew were, to put it mildly, some way short of greatness. Anfield beat Chelsea that night, and that is why it is the greatest night of all.

Same, and I was hoarse for a week after, amazing night. I went to my seat in the Kop about an hour before kick off as I was really tense, and it was incredible how many people were already in place- things just built and built from there.

Agreed. Anfield and the crowd scored that goal.

I don’t care what the replays say, from my view on the Kop that night it was in & nobody will ever tell me different.

Also, that was a great Chelsea team, better than Barca who showed the year before they were vulnerable (and last season as well).

We’d never have turned round that 0-3 deficit against that Chelsea side, even if Salah & Firmino has been fit.

There was more at stake in the Chelsea game as well, it wasn’t just a place in the European Cup final to play for. After the Gerrard transfer saga, Fat Fwank breaking Alonso’s ankle, Mourinho sushing the supporters & the game in Cardiff, a blatant handball penalty we didn’t get at Anfield in the league and Gudjohnsen’s injury time dive in the first leg, getting Alonso suspended for the 2nd leg & subsequent smirk about it.... we just couldn’t let them win.

There was a defiance from the crowd that night that they might have rolled everybody else over that season (including us) but on that night, with the those stakes, we wouldn’t be beaten.

Personally, I thought we could turn it round against Barca, not that we would but we could. As long as we scored first, no matter the minute, it was always going to be massively uncomfortable for them.

If we hadn’t have gone through, it wouldn’t have been as devastating as the Chelsea game would have been. Barca was a largely expectationless match, it didn’t have the fear of failure that came with the Chelsea match.

Mourinho made a great comment after the game “Tonight we felt Anfield at full power...... and it was magnificent”.
