Everton (H) - Wed 2nd Apr 2025 (8:00pm)

Feels like ages since the Newcastle shitshow so we'll have had over 2 weeks to stew over that performance, with most of us filling our time pissing our knickers over on the transfer threads. A pattern I've noticed on match threads is that very few people talk about whatever the upcoming game is so there are only a handful of posts up to matchday. It gets busier on matchdays and turns feverish once the game is underway. If things are not going well, it's like the lunacy that permeates other team's online support. That said, it's almost a blessed relief to get back to what really matters, which is playing in and winning games.

The derby will be live on Sky. Due to this weekend being an FA Cup weekend, there are no Premier League games on. Palace and Newcastle have played one game fewer than everyone else and Palace are in action this weekend in the cup so if there were any league games on, Palace would then have 2 games in hand. They are in that lower midtable pack alongside the Mancs, Tottenham and Everton so having games in hand doesn't have any bearing on the table. Palace are well clear of the relegation spots but perhaps too far back to threaten the European places. Anyway, it means that everyone is playing league football in midweek. In terms of having any bearing on what we are doing, Arsenal play the day before us so at worst we will go into the derby 9 points clear but with a game in hand. Best case scenario is for us to enter the derby game with our existing 12-point lead intact but also with a game in hand. Dream scenario is that at the end of the derby, we'll have built a 15-point lead with both ourselves and Arsenal having 8 games left. That's 5 games we'd need to completely fudge, with Arsenal being perfect, just for them to draw level. Even the (many) Private Frazers in our midst would struggle to see that happening.

We can't worry about the permutations, just deal with the immediate game. Going into the international break having exited one cup competition and failed to win the other was a real downer. So much so that it feels weird to see that we have such a healthy lead in the title race. A game against the mongrels from across the park should be the perfect way for our players to show they can play with intensity, look too hot to handle, dominate the game and take all the points. The fixture at Goodison came at a time when Everton had changed managers, with Moyes displaying a more progressive approach than Dyche. Moyes was never a progressive manager, especially in big games, yet somehow he has washed off the LMA managerial merry-go-round stink off. Or at least given the impression that he has. He's picked up a lot of points and good results recently. That Goodison game was all about the final derby at the piss-soaked timberyard, and the commentary in that game showed they were desperate for Everton to get something. The commentary before, during and after the League Cup final was embarrassing too. I don't recall such fervour even when the "Crazy Gang" had topple the "Culture Club". Anyway, Everton have steered well clear of any relegation trouble but I don't think they were ever in any danger of that. Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich are all so bad that even another PSR points deduction wouldn't have mattered. Everton are likely without Mangala, and there are doubts over Mykolenko, McNeil, Ndiaye and Calvert-Lewin. Dom Saint-Laurent only ever seems to be available for derbies anyway. Or at least, it seems like he only ever turns up for derbies. Much like Big Dunc, the fucking tampon.

In all these threads I try to put a positive slant on us. We need to come out and show that we are top of the league by a mile for a reason. We need a performance where everything clicks. We need the defence to be solid. We need the midfield to dictate the game. And we especially need the forwards to look like they've played together before. Hopefully Cody's rustiness has been consigned to the international break. Hopefully Diogo remembers that he is a professional footballer. Hopefully Mo feels the benefits of refuelling properly after Ramadan and Eid. Ali was following concussion protocols after picking up a head injury with Brazil, and I think he should be OK to train and play already. Trent's been in the news because everybody believes it's only a matter of time before he signs for Madrid. Hopefully he is available and ready to give his all, if indeed this is to be his last season at the club. I'm not sure Conor will be available yet so we might still require Jarrel on right back duty. Ibou should hopefully be OK, and same with Grav. Both had to curtail their international commitments while away due to fatigue-related issues. Joe and Tyler are definitely still out, but the rest should be available. Slot has shown an adaptability within games, but he needs to get the team to fly out of the traps and kill games as a contest as early as possible.

How have our previous managers fared in their first home against the Blueshite? It's a very decent record, especially when in most cases the team was at a low ebb at the time of the game. Either the manager wasn't getting a tune out of the players, or was at the tail end of his reign, or still bedding in new ideas after only a few months in the job.

Don't care we win but we need to and we need to get these points on the board as quickly as we can. We are one injury at CB away from being right in the shit. 10pts from the next 4 should be the minimum aim. Then that takes us into the Spurs,Chelsea,Arsenal and Brighton fixtures

It is very likely we only need something like about 12 pts from 9 games to win this title, maybe even less. The absolute maximum we need is 16 and that is only if a team who have failed to win more than 3 games on the bounce all season suddenly win 9 on the bounce.

There is no must win situation here (apart from it being against the shite and all that means) - there is no desperate need to get points on the board as quickly as we can....

We have nearly a quarter of the season left and by far our worst run of form in it over those 9 games would still see us win the league. We are fantastically well placed and there is absolutely zero need for any sort of panic.

We have been nailed on to win this league for a long while and we are curently in the strongest position we have been all season with the biggest lead we have had  - a lead we hold over a team whose form all season has been nowhere near good enough to challenge. There isn't a challenge, there hasn't been a challenge, there won't be a challenge.

I agree in principle

But if we lost Konate we would be relying on Jones to play RB or Endo at CB and would leave us o e injury from being pretty fucked. We don't want to go into the Spurs,Chelsea and Arsenal games with the gap significantly lowered. Arsenal don't look like putting that run of wins together but talk is Saka might be back in the squad this week. As I said we likely win it no issue but you don't want to let the momentum start to swing especially with our recent result or the fall off last year. 9 or 10pts in the next 4 what you want

I appreciate the concern over the right back/centre half situation but IMO even that won't be enough to derail us.

Our next 5 Fulham away aside maybe are games we should expect to be winning - 9 or 10 pts would be ok of course.

Shit the bed against these cunts far too often in recent years, a statement needs to be made.

At the pit yes - at anfield the behind closed doors loss aside our record perfectly reflects the gulf between the teams.

Hoo-ah.

Me too, got my spec on the Kop at some ridiculously early time like 12:30pm. Still to this day can't fathom how many clear chances Stuart Barlow missed!

What's the odds Slott picks the same players as against Newcastle?!

What, the players he thinks are his first choice?  I think he probably will, subject to availability.  Regardless of how they've been playing.

Was in the middle of the Kop with my missus, and my blue sister. I ended up down the front when Ronny scored. Bedlam!

I was hoping after a long break I’d feel less nervous about this. I don’t. Moyes will have them studs up from the off. Can see it being an absolute shithouse of a performance from them. They will be desperate to derail our title tilt.

The Newcastle game and Southampton first half were a shit show. Southampton possibly the worst premier league team ever and for large parts of that first half you'd think they where top of the league and us bottom. We cant have that level against Everton it was shocking. Its been a case of us being poor after internationals or a break but honestly that's just not good enough there's no excuses, their team is laughable comparative to ours and the only way they take anything is by wanting it more, we are in a title race no one should want it more. No distractions twat them.

There is no title race - there hasn't really been one all season.

The team in 2nd are averaging just 2 pts a game.

That said it is of course the derby and it follows them celebrating like they had won the league after snatching a late, late draw against us last time - so we should be up bang up for it and of course to tick off another step on our procession to the title.

I remember somebody fainted near me. We were all trying to get the stewards attention but they are all celebrating and hugging each other! The person was ok.
