Is “ham hock” ever used? I feel like that could really freshen things up as a viable alternative to gammon.

What are the origins of gammon as an insult? I always assumed a gammon joint resembled the facial complexion of a stereotypical blue blooded guy, red wine in one hand, plate of honey glazed ham in the other, tweed cap, tweed jacket, mustard tank top. Is that it?

To get people to up their games we need to bring back Ricos "lefty of the week" and for inclusion introduce a "gammon of the week"

It is as well. I’ve defo heard that or had it explained to me at some point. No way I’ve joined the dots myself

Gammon refers to the colour a certain type of middle aged man's face turns if he sees a female pundit on MOTD, a gay character on Doctor Who or a black family in an advert.

To be fair, both sides are about as bad as each other for being offended & throwing about ridiculous words like 'gammon' & 'woke'.

they really arent.

gb news spends 24 hours a day being offended about something.

whereas people who use woke as an insult are just laughed at.

Or a player of Asian heritage playing for England!

A good few years back I worked in a warehouse where there was some renovation going on (likely the cost of it caused the factory to close and me being made redundant at the time. But I digress.) Anyway,we had the radio on constantly while we were loading and unloading wagons. One day I was talking to an older contractor (I think he was the boss actually?) and the radio was on with the Sports news on at the time and England were playing Test matches and a specific bowler had taken a few wickets. He got an honourable mention by the sports reporter.

'What kind of name is that for an English cricketer?' the contractor piped up after hearing it, obviously insinuating it was a foreign born or ancestered player of non white lineage. The player in question was Alan Mullally!

You watch GB News?

That explains a fair bit.

What this place lacks is an understanding of a middle ground.
Rather than absolute extremes that warrant these slightly weird noisy battlegrounds where pretty much everyone is wrong in one way or another

You're completely wrong.

The problem with this place is there's too much consensus, compromise and reasonable, fair-minded respect for each other's views.

And I'll chin any cunt who disagrees.

I’m unrepentant. If you’re a Tory, have witnessed the impact of Truss, Cameron, Johnson and Sunak and don’t acknowledge the absolute fucking bollocks they made of running the country, then you are a complete cunt.

I genuinely don't know why people bother posting insults. They're hiding behind anonymous accounts calling other posters gammons and tory cunts becauese they disagree about how to fund social care. If they knew the actual level of shit that happens in real life to Conservative activists, the death threats, the rape threats, the graffiti on the walls of the house etc then they'd realize the futility of posting insults. My house (on police advice) has got security cameras and a panic line because of the shit that has happened to Mrs Hick in the past and which will happen again no doubt if she stands in the local elections. Do you really think hiding behind your anonymous little avatar and calling me a Tory Cunt is going to bother me now ?

I’m not anonymous. I don’t post under my real name but it’s quite easy to find me. I don’t care if it doesn’t bother you, I’m not threatening you. I don’t think anyone should be getting death threats. I don’t think politicians should be robbing our country blind and giving the money to their own. I don’t think anybody should support a group of politicians who do that and have been seen to do so. It is cuntish behaviour.

That goes both ways in politics, what “side” you are on is not the important part, the fact you put your face and name forward is what attract the loons.

Sadly women are targeted more than men, and sadly women in general let it affect them more.

I’ve had my share of it, but it’s never bothered me, the police did monitor social media and mentions of me for a while though just to make sure nothing serious was going on.

Politicians are easy targets, even if most local politicians just want to do their part in help developing their county or district in the right direction based on their beliefs.

I’ve seen and heard Tory leaders send round vans with anti refugee messaging on them and on telly, seen refugee centres attacked. But never seen truly threatening behaviour on here.

I stood once in our local council for the Greens. I was ignored for the most part.
