Summer 2025 Transfer Thread

Robbo’s had to do the work of 3 men since he left. The other 3 duds have been a waste of time

To be fair, Diaz and Gakpo combined are a statistical approximation of Mane.

I think when we scouted Diaz, we thought he was essentially the next Mané. But the big difference between the two is Mané had immense physicality. Diaz can't impose himself on defenders and get into goalscoring areas like Mané could.

It won’t be for us, probably play in Scotland till he’s 40.

Fair point but if he’s staying with us he really ought to knock it on the head if he expects to be a regular first choice.

He is Mr Scotland in his mind. Closing down San Marino’s keeper with minutes left and comfortably ahead sums it up.

Diaz out and Semenyo in will probably appeal to the transfer boffins. If you work from Gakpo being the starting winger then they probably like having a back up that can cover both sides so they can flush Chiesa whilst they’re at it. The thing is as well as Semenyo has taken the step up does he have much more improvement in him and is he even an improvement on Diaz? Maybe but doing it for Liverpool is a big step up from Bournemouth.

Still haven't heard a great argument as to why Diaz has to be flushed, and I'm not a big fan of the guy.

It’s logical from the clubs point of view if they don’t want to bump his wages up. Personally I think he’s an excellent squad player who is a good first team player and if he’s happy to be that and can agree a new deal there’s no problem with him staying as such but it’s clear we can improve there.  With possibly Salah’s replacement and a centre forward being an  area of priority it won’t surprise me to see him get a new deal unless the club do a forward overhaul akin to the midfield overhaul. Just don’t let the twat leave for free.

I don't see why a free transfer is bad for the club in his case. His wages are low. It's like with Wijnaldum. We can just milk him at a low cost to us and let him go. There's plenty of other candidates that could be for sale this summer in the squad, so there's a good chance we don't need a fee. Unless someone wants to pay something crazy.

And as you said, at worst, he is a good squad player. Relatively durable. He has value for us.

Not disagreeing with you that he is a player Scott.

But I do absolutely despise Chelsea....

Saw an interview with him after a 2-1 defeat to Fulham. take a look..

Utter cunt. Better at running about and stuff?

What's so bad about it? He just doesn't look comfortable on camera, he's not saying anything out of line.

He doesn't need to be really, I thought he'd turn out to have much better end product but he does enough, with Gakpo being strong on that side it's two good options. He has his head down too much and doesn't seem great at finding a teammate or getting into good areas to shoot.

It certainly doesn’t help the current set of forwards that they’re following some of the best forwards we’ve ever had playing together. It’s not Diaz’s fault he’s not Sadio Mane but that is the expectation. I’ll feel sorry for big Bryan Mbeumo walking in Mo’s shadow next season. I bet Code won’t even be able to muster a semi at Bry’s 15 goals and 6 assists in his first season at Liverpool.

Unless a crazy bid from the Saudi's comes in, or an equivalent deal from Barca (ha!), then more than happy going in to the season with Diaz as backup to Gakpo.

38 G/A combined from the left wing position isn't bad production and should go up with a more productive #9 (or a #9 that is better at bringing others in to play).

We’ve spent £200m trying to replace Mane and none of them are anywhere near him

If we got a player anywhere near as good as Mane was we'd be laughing. He was exceptional & probably in our all time 11. Not easy to find players of his ilk.

Diaz looked like he could be it at the start but no. Gakpo despite doing well this season is more a 2nd choice than a starter. We need better on the left.

Diaz is the dumbest forward we’ve had in years.  Very little end product and wastes the ball.  Sell.

Darwin Nunez: Hold my beer

Rest of squad: But you're not holding a beer

Worryingly, Robbo says he’s chasing down Kenny’s Scotland cap total which will probably take another two years or so.

He and his family are all massive Celtic fans and he’ll need at least another 2 seasons to beat Kenny’s record.

If he doesn’t want to play back up to a much needed younger, first choice LB then I’d happily let him go a club legend to achieve his final achievements.
