Nintendo Switch 2

Hopefully they will have improved the joy sticks. My lad has one and played a lot of Fortnight/Rocket league, the joysticks often ended up with bad drift esp the movement one. Bought a repair kit from amazon to repair them but fuck me is it fiddly to replace the little buggers. I'm a dab hand at it now but they don't make it easy, thank God for Youtube.

Massively underwhelmed by this. I remember when the Switch was revealed it was a revelation.

I guess you can't reinvent the wheel every time. I do wonder if this in a way is the end of the road for console development - where can you actually go from here apart from a bit more power every few years?

I never had any intention of getting one anyway, happy with my Switch and PS4 Pro.

Better have a strong lineup of new games at launch to convince people to step up.

Advertising it with MK8 again, not exactly setting the world aflame.

I think it's mario kart 9 mate. Does look pretty identical though. I wonder what exactly they can do now - MK 8 DX was like 'The Best of Mario Kart '.

I remember buying mario kart 1!

Ha, I remember getting Mario Kart 1 for Xmas that year, best present ever.

I do wonder how much different it’ll be to the Switch though. If the Switch was the equivalent to a PS3, you’d hope Switch 2 would be PS4 power. The original Switch was announced in Oct’16 so you’d hope for a significant upgrade.

I sold my old one when I got my PS5, I just wasn’t playing it. However, my wife has told me I need to get one because we have nothing to do as a family over Christmas…. Ok, if I must.

I reckon it’ll be out end of May / start of June.

The games line up at launch will be interesting.

Like you, I think it was Mario Kart 9 as well. It didn’t look like a course I recognised. I saw somebody say that there was more characters in the race than in Mario Kart 8. Personally, if there was 16 new courses and the opportunity to obtain every Mario Kart course ever (like in 8), I’d be really happy.

I see rumours Nintendo have been remastering a couple of historic Zelda games. I’m sure I read Wind Waker and Skyward Sword. Really, they should remaster Ocarina Of Time & Majora’s Mask.

I think the long awaited Metroid Prime game will be launch title. I see a new F-Zero is rumoured as well, although that is a bit of an acquired taste (I loved the N64 game). Probably some Pokémon shit as well.

You’d assume there will be a new 3D Mario game on the horizon, maybe in time for Xmas’25 than launch.

Typical that given I’ve really only played EAFC on the PS5 for the last year or so, that when Indiana Jones, Metal Gear Solid 3, GTA6, Wolverine, Mafia & Ghost of Tsushima 2 all coming out, the Switch 2 will also be coming out.

It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo announced it didn't even OLED at launch.

That connector for the controller makes me nervous as well, unless the blue section on the joycon bolts in to protect it that connector on the sides of the screen looks destined to snap when you forget you've put it down.

I don’t know what they all mean, I think I’ve read it’s meant to be 1080hp, the dock upscales it to 4k… is that right?

I hardly ever used my old one out of dock mode.

We still use our Switch loads. The second hand game market is decent for the Nintendo produced games and there's always decent offers on for games KidD likes to play.

Hopefully the 2 will be able to handle ports from the bigger consoles more easily. I got hogwarts legacy for the switch and the load times were upwards of 1 minute for certain areas which is too long.

I'll almost certainly get one and enjoy it.

There's talk that you're looking at PS4 pro levels of power from the switch 2 which will be plenty for your standard native Nintendo games, they need to do a much better job of the ports than they did for the first switch though

Not sure PS4 Pro but certainly PS4 but still underpowered for current PC/PS5/Series X titles...I'd suggest Switch 2 is in competition with Steam Deck more than current gen/GAMING PC.

Switch 2 will be powered by an Nvidia custom Tegra T239 processor, according to leaked details gleaned from the console’s motherboard. That would put the system’s processing power on par with previous-generation consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, according to analysts. But leaks suggest the Switch 2 will employ upscaling technology that can boost 720p resolution visuals up to 4K when docked, using machine learning techniques.

With the current gen consoles running off SSD memory, the Switch 2 using flash memory might be the thing that creates a massive barrier preventing ports of the latest big games.

You can probably downgrade the graphics on most games to get it to run on weaker hardware, but having a much slower memory to run off would require them changing how the game functions entirely, and I can't see them wanting to rebuild games from scratch just to run on the switch.

This is for the original Switch apparently, I’d have thought they’d have kept it for 2…

Looks a bit boring…

That's too big a franchise to risk selling on a new console only. The first Zelda game on Switch was also on Wii U so I'd assume there will be a superior version on switch 2.

I think Nintendo’s issue with the Switch 2 will be sufficiently convincing people it’s a significant enough upgrade from the Switch to fork out another £300 (at least) for the new console.

Part of the reason to entice people to buy a Switch 2 would be exclusivity of some games. Whether they view Metroid as big enough brand to launch the Switch 2 is debatable.

You’re probably right, they’ll launch it on both consoles and give away some extra DLC for the Switch 2 version.

I saw an article last week that Mario Kart Deluxe was a an afterthought for the original Switch. They hadn’t planned on it and only did it because the Wii-U sold so poorly. It’s gone on to be arguably the biggest game of all time…

On a side note, I see some complaining that the Switch Direct earlier this week was missing multiple games they were expecting, notably the remasters of the GameCube and Wii Zelda games. I reckon they’ll be announced next week as Switch 2 launch titles, along with a new Mario Kart - although I hope it’s not a Lego Mario Kart game I’ve seen rumoured.

Still, they should be remastering Ocarina of Time & Majora’s Mask.

That time of the year when Nintendo tell us how their console is under powered and over priced with games that that haven't really changed in a decade and yet we'll all still buy it and love it anyway.
