Hindsight, but wrong midfield against a low block. Elliot should've started and we need to keep trent out wide.

Maybe slot is trying something with him inverting, given its a bit of a free hit, but it ain't working.

Our pressing is also an issue.

It's extremely disjointed and not as coordinated as is usual.

Am I missing something here? How can you get worked up over this game? We'll probably win, in 2nd gear. We do not need to go charging around, we've got about a 6 pt cushion.

We've been alright. They’ve been good and have probably raised their game for the calibre of opposition. 
 

Gomez and TAA looked shaky, but that was during a period of the game when the whole team looked a bit iffy. 
 

Missing Mac Allister’s composure in midfield and also missing a striker who isn’t a bit shite and failing to even do the basics.

Elliott probably isn't fit enough to start yet. We'll try and give him some minutes tonight and at the weekend then start him in the league Cup.

Tbf, we’ve played like this in about half our games this season and Mo, usually him, scores and we win. I’m still to be convinced, yet the Madrid and Citeh games show what we can be. I’m conundrumed.

He’s not the future of our midfield by any means but I don’t see what he’s done wrong to be so categorically frozen out.

If ever there was a game for Gomez to get a goal it's this one. For one thing, they're not the best at corners (he's already had a nice free header) and for another, they're so drilled they'll probably be confused if he just runs inside the box and belts a shot. May as well do something like that - their play has such an air of rigid video-analysis prep about it.

Not difficult. City and Madrid need maximum effort and concentration, that's where we can show our power when we have to. These games you just need to get by and win saving energy.
