Everton was always going to be a horrible game. Whether it's modern Everton or 1985 Everton, any game against them is going to be street battles. Like United, it will always be one of our toughest 5/6 away games.

Taking aside Kell's horror mistake and Nunez being Nunez, I thought we looked a lot better in the second half. Stating the obvious as we could have been two or three down at half time.

7 points from City and two horrible aways would be a great return. Saturday is huge though. Go there and win - don't play the occasion which is what we do too often in the derby.

Shut up with the nuance!

That was shite. But outside of the last week, not a massively out of character with everything else we've seen this season, just we were massively shit defensively, which ensured we couldn't win. If anyone needed a reminder this league was miles from over, tonight was it. Gomez was awful, quansah looks like he has no confidence and one of those two will be playing for some time. We need our defenders not to be dopey, because there's only really Salah making stuff happen at the other end. I know some are chipping in, but everything relies on Mo and if he's not involved, you wonder how we can score. And luckily we don't normally give the other team much encouragement, but we did that all night.

Tbh I have to agree. The match threads are always aids. Harsh but lots of over the top drama.

OTT for sure. Anybody who has watched us long enough knows that even our greatest sides had days like this. We were poor and should still have won but par for the course when Kweev fucked up. Having said that Madeley was a disgrace.

Looked tired in the first half, but created a lot of chances to win it in the second. It wasn’t realistic to think we’d beat all of Madrid, City, Newcastle and Everton in 10 days, but doing well so far.

Would like to see some backup fullbacks from the academy and Danns on the bench for Saturday, as well. Keep Gomez and Quansah as the 2nd and 3rd choice CB’s until Konate comes back.

This one really hurts. What a brilliant comeback, it looked for all the world we were going to have a memorable comeback win but then Kelleher's absolute brain fart at the end. Combined with Nunez's usual horrendous finishing, we have lost 2 big points. Gutted.

We've scored the second most goals in the league and are 7 points clear. Do you expect us to stop scoring?

saw this on twitter "Salah has contributed towards 21 of our 28 goals in the league, that's 75%"

this is the big worry - if Mo has any dip in form, and others dont step up it could mean trouble

I (unlike most on here it seems) wasn’t actually expecting a win tonight, as (despite Code’s magnificent efforts to prove otherwise);

Newcastle are still a decent side

They are definite game-raisers

Their crowd is loud and rabid enough to influence a weak ref

Some of their front players match up very well against ours

They were coming off a dreadful performance against West Ham

We have had an amazing week with two energy and concentration-sapping games.

I was actually pretty pleased at both 1-1 and 2-2, but it of course incredibly frustrating to give away the win in the final few minutes. Onwards and upwards, 7 pts clear with over a third of the season done is far, far better than anyone could hope for. We aren’t winning EVERY game. A point today at a (sometimes) difficult ground is nothing to be ashamed of.

A special mention to today’s ref who had an absolute mare with his judgement of free kicks and yellow cards. We were definitely up against it with this beaut. The only surprise was him not awarding a penalty to Isak.

I could rant about certain players, but the ref was key issue.

That was a suspicious performance.

I had to go out at half time tonight but he was a fucking disgrace the first half.

One thing I will say is our lot don't help with this constant pushing the opposition in the back. We do it all over the pitch & if the ref isn't in the mood for it, we're just conceding free kicks all game.

The result tonight all depends on Saturday. If we drop points at Goodison, it starts to look like a wobble. If we win, 7pts from this week is a decent return.

We have to expect it to a degree, we're top and shit teams away will use us as a springboard to mask previous bad performances, and a ref that indulges their crowd will make it almost impossible for us to win those games.

As such, we have to go to the well in every game, and we're at risk of a few of our regular performers blowing a gasket.

We're now in a trap, we can't rest anyone for Everton, and it'll be 110% effort and a shit ref.

We need to play the kids Vs Girona.  Take a loss, rest the first team.

If he's not good enough for Brighton he's not going to be good enough for us!

Very talented kid who has been hampered by injuries(add that to the list of why i'd not want him) after having a real big purple patch, also can't get in the team ahead of a(admittedly in form) 34 year old Danny Welbeck, finally I swear i've read that Hurzeler poo poo'd the loan thing already. We'd get raked over coals for a fee to outright buy him as well.

Players we likely or definitely can't use Saturday.

Alisson

Bradley

Tsimikas

Konate

Mac Allister

Jota

Chiesa

The media were in a frenzy when Arsenal had half that problem.

Alisson and Jota should be back in next couple of weeks and Mac Allister is just a one game suspension. Hopefully we can ride this period and it not got any worse in terms of missing players - but it feels really dicey with the back line. I felt sorry for Quansah having to play RB tonight a strange position for him exacerbated by fact he has barely played anyway lately. TAA really needs to stay fit.
