Will you settle for them being behind them on goal difference by Sunday night?

That is absolutely my plan, City can actually be down to 5th by the time our match starts.

Not thought about that before today.

I hope it's Gomez, Quansah has a mistake in him and we can't afford to gift them anything.

Fuck the draw, land the killer blow or die trying. We have to go all out for the win here. Arsenal have their players back, they are still a threat, don't let them get 6 or 7 points behind. It'll give them too much of a boost, I can see them going on a run of wins now.

As for City, use all those lost titles as the motivation to knock them out of the race already. We owe them one, don't let those cunts off the hook. The rewards are too big to play this one cagey and settle for a point.

We have to aim for that 11 points gap and go all out to get it.

I didn't even realise Konate had been injured until later on. Fucking great that it happens before we play the oil barons too. I'm hoping Quansah plays, he might make mistakes every so often but that might go from his game mostly with experience and if he plays and we win that should help his confidence a lot.

The pessimist in me agrees. 1 win in 9 league matches against these.

The optimist in me thinks we'll never have a better chance of duffing them up.

On a similar note, since 2003 they've only won 1 game against us at Anfield in all competitions, and that's when we had a centre back pairing of Fabinho and Henderson barely holding the team together.

Tell that to the optimist in you.

I tend to agree, the lad had some outstanding performances last season BUT I think he struggles with the extra work having to cover for Trent.

Trent isn't really playing like that any more though. He's been very much a conventional full back this season. I'd pick Gomez based on I think quansah looked really short on confidence when he has played. I don't think Gomez is a great centre back, but I think he's the lowest risk option. The trouble we have is you know haaland is going to pick whichever one of those plays to go up against.

I'd not really thought about that too but guessing Gomez could have similar problems if Trent isn't getting back properly. Hopefully Barrington is right though and he'll carry on playing more like a normal full back, especially for this game.

My worry with Gomez, is he's poor in the air. He can't even jump properly and often misreads the flight of the ball. We're not the biggest team anyway. And I don't know who they'll have fit (I've been doing my best to ignore the crying from guardiola on their injuries), but a few times they've started games with 5 centre backs historically, with stones as a 6 and the full backs centre backs too. Hopefully it's their midgets that are fit, so we're not vulnerable on set pieces and we find a way to stop supply into haaland.

I see Dias was back as an unused sub on Tuesday, so he’ll likely start.

Stones and Doku were back in full training yesterday, so they’ll likely be involved somehow.

To be honest, wouldn’t surprise me to see Rodri out there with a bionic leg.

This man has no shame.

“But Guardiola insisted he is committed to the challenge of rebuilding the squad, saying: "The squad is really good but we don't have a squad. It's not just Rodri, it's many players.

"After that, I say we need to rebuild, yes. We don't have players. We play six weeks without four centre-backs and two holding midfielders. It's not sustainable.”

Wonder if the shouts of chequebook manager got to him, so he thought he'd spend barely anything for a few seasons to prove everyone wrong, but now he's feeling the effects of having a normal squad and his ego can't take it.

Some nice little mind games going on here.

Baiting Pep into overthinking again and doing some daft shit tactically.

Or maybe he knows that's what Slot's trying to do, so he's going to play his same tactics that he normally would.

But maybe Slot knows he's going to be thinking that, and he will become predictable, so now he needs to invent some cunning new tactics that Slot won't have seen before.

Round and round til his head falls off.

Code saying his 'plan' is for City to be fifth is peak Code, talking like he has some control over what is going to happen! Tremendous, love that Frode, and I mean that. Never change mate.

you’re underestimating Code there Dave.  So many have made that mistake before, and come to regret it.

I just think Gomez is physically stronger than Quansah, and up against Haaland I think that is the deciding factor.

He also had a brilliant game in our last win against them. I'm not Gomez's biggest fan, but throwing Quansah into this game after what happened earlier in the season would be a big risk.
