Smooth whiskies/bourbons

I'm in the market for a new pour but I like to drink it neat and don't want to retch of go on fire. What can people recommend?

My usual tipples are things like Abelour, McCallan 12 (when it's cheap in Tesco, which is hardly ever), Glenmorangie, Bushmills/Black Bush, Buffalo Trace, Maker's Mark, Bulleit, Gentleman Jack, Wild Turkey (the weaker one, not the 101 proof).

I've tried a single glass of Woodford once but didn't care for it, unless it's a grower. I don't like peaty whiskies either, that Laphroaig stuff is quite horrific.

Bushmills??!!! Why I oughta.....

I was surprised how nice Proper No Twelve is (McGregors) Not that I condone giving that cunt money but it's a really decent drop. In fact if I was in the mood to go out and buy a bottle right now I'd probably choose that.

I've gotten to the point where I quite like an Islay now, never used to like whisky and still not a big bourbon fan.

Bit more expensive, which is an issue now I'm reaching for that bottle more often than the rum, but still not too much of a regular thing for me so I can take it as a premium treat rather than a running cost. Currently on a bruichladdich one. Very nice over ice, but might be a bit smoky if you don't like the peaty stuff.

Auchantoshan is another one I like, around £25 I think and not an Islay, just a nice all round whisky.

A mate did a whisky night a couple of years back. 12 of us, all bringing a bottle. One time around the room and we were having a great time. Anyway, that one was one of my favourites.

How much are you looking to spend?

My father always said Jameson Crested 10 was the optimum Irish whisky. He owned a pub and said 10 years was the perfect age for Irish whisky. It's always my go to but I love a good scotch also. Talisker is probably my favourite

I got a Makers Mark bourbon recently too, that was very smooth.

I love this scene in The Drop when Chovka tries Middleton.

The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve is quite delightful.

Have you tried Talisker Storm?  It's pretty much my desert island whisky.

Have a look at the site above. Not an exhaustive list of malts but enough to give you an idea of what to look for.
