Yeah, and they haven’t helped themselves with the way they’ve tried to rebuild. Their solution seems to be to keep digging.

Happy to fly home with a spade and help them.

Roy Hodgson accumulated 25 points in 20 games during his Liverpool tenure, Ruben Amorim has 23 points over 21 games as Manchester United manager.

If they start winning trophies again will their fans say to gloryhunters "I was here during the Amorim years lad"

I hope they spend the next 20 years as perpetually mid table but also with ocassinal glimmers of hope that they're 'back', to maximise the pain.

So doing an Everton then?

Other than Conte for basically one season at Chelsea, I'm struggling to think of a manager that has had success at the top level playing 3-4-3 or similar in this country.

From what I've seen so far they've actually got worse than when Ten Hag was in charge.

The only good signing (albeit overpriced) is Yoro. I know he had a nightmare against Southampton but I can see why we were interested. He's quick, tall and a really good long passer. It might be one to revisit if they get relegated next season.

It's often because of the implementation rather than the system itself, there's no reason it can't work it just needs a total commitment from the club.

When Hodgson was appointed my Manc neighbour told me we’d finally got a good manager in place.   May have to remind him of this today…

Its a part of this but its often that its generally not attacking enough to get the points required to win a league title in England since Klopp and Guardiola came in. Tuchel had success early on with Chelsea but they never had enough match winners on the pitch the full season he had to match us and City over the course of a season. Can work well in knockout games but the limitations show over 38 games.

Guardiola has played similar formations loads with City. Usually gets called a 3-2-4-1 when he does it but it’s the same thing. Xavi won La Liga playing it with Barcelona as well.

Amorim’s version of it is stodgy as fuck though. Even at Sporting it was solid and functional going forward rather than pretty. They relied a lot on pace out wide and direct attacks. We obviously had major concerns with it, which is why we never seriously pursued him as an option to replace Klopp.

Guardiola's is different considering its all about keeping the ball and the shape depends on when exactly his team has the ball or not. The other iterations I'm talking about were all about counter attacking, using wing backs and hitting teams direct on the break.

He looks dopey though. You can't be having defenders that look dopey. It's why Tsimikas can't ever be first choice.
