Someone's Having a Real Laugh - How long before Amorim gets a hammering

Will he make it to the end of the season after this catastrophic start? The amount of pressure he appeared to be feeling when dealing with with the press after his first game seemed disproportionate to me.

Their trip to the Etihad next weekend is looking like something approaching a must-win.

I think he'll survive if they get beat by arsenal (and quite beyond). But I do think in terms of their long term commitment to him, he's a manager they looked at in the summer and decided to retain seven Haag instead. So there's clearly something there they didn't fancy and only moved once they were completely desperate. Surely those fears raise their head of he struggles.

One of the observations we made with Amorim is that the 3-4-3 formation is pretty hard to get working for a team that have never played that way before.

They don't have anybody capable of playing left wingback. Shaw is too old and injury prone now. It doesn't really work for the likes of Garnacho either.

Amorim doesn't seem to have much personality or charisma either. He clearly did a very good job with Sporting but I think the United job at this point is too big for him.

I can't see them getting rid for at least 18 months unless something goes terribly wrong. They shouldn't either, he's a young coach and has a squad full of complete overpaid shite that he needs to clear out. The back 3 he played today cost the best part of 140ml and none are fantastic, though it's far to early to write the French kid off. They are all one paced and easily exposed, de Ligt is on his 3rd big club since Ajax for a reason and Martinez is just crap, far to concerned with playing wannabe hard man to actually defend. As you say no left back,Mad looks good going forward as the RWB but leaves a slow one paced.

They keep saying how good Ugarte is, he looks fine when playing Leicester reserves in the cups or Bodo Glimt and completely exposed and slow against anyone good.

The forwards are not great either. The only one that's shown anything is the Danish kid but it's all hard work and he looks far from a consistent scorer. Rashford and Garnacho are pace merchants and both think they're something they're not

He’s not spunked £500m up the wall on average players yet. At least let him do that before they axe him.

Some of his comments are very Hodgsonesque though.  Not a massive team, we’ll get found out, we will suffer etc.  I’m sure all the red mancs love hearing this stuff.

The p.r machine there is making out he's humble compared to the arrogant Ten Haag.

He should get two seasons. He's clearly a good manager, but it's a seriously dysfunctional place. Let's not forget Ten Haag was one of the up and coming exciting young managers and Mourinho and Van Gaal were legendary managers.

Sounds like things aren’t going too well over at the Theatre Of Shite.

They realised he spent 200ml last summer and came out of it with one good rightback, 2 slow CB and another slow defensive midfielder and non scoring forward

Weird one. Ashworth has done a decent job everywhere he’s been except there. He went there and somehow their summer dealings were basically, sign more of Ten Hag’s old Ajax team. I don’t believe that strategy was Ashworth’s. Maybe he’s got the boot because he didn’t push back harder on that, maybe Amorim has demanded his own sporting director in place instead. Seems like another example of how dysfunctional Man Utd are.

Watched them lose yesterday in a pub in Manchester full of united fans. Very enjoyable watch.

I just watched them on match of the day, I generally can't stomach them for any more than 10 minutes, so highlights is all I can stretch to these days.

One noticeable conclusion is zonal marking at set pieces. It doesn't work in England, never has, and never will. But let's hope he persists with it

Doesn't help when your centre back is four foot three inches.

You do know that we have used zonal marking at set pieces to great effect for several years now? Since Virgil and Ali arrived we have one of the best set piece defensive records. It does help that Virgil is so dominant at winning headers, and Firmino was also brilliant at getting his head on the ball at the front post.

The thing is for me though, the 343 thing surely has to be a bit of a distraction. If it's such a blocker for them (or us previously), he never gets on your list. And I'd also argue if he's so completely wedded to one way of playing, regardless of players available, then he's probably the wrong manager for a top club.

You'd wonder if he wasn't on board with the Amorim hiring.

Has he done well? He seemed ok at Brighton, but the Brighton lads I know say he wasn't anything to do with finding players, he was just the public face of the data nerds and the operation that was built with all the relationships with agents was built before he arrived at the club. At Newcastle their best work seemed to be before he arrived and then they signed tonali on his shift before he got off. Maybe I'm getting time lines mixed up, but he seems to be someone who has a reputation, but he's perhaps better at self publicity with the press than actually doing his job.

All the same: a pub in Manchester? Full of Manchester United fans? With Manchester United on the TV? Even in the services of schadenfreude, that seems like way too great a sacrifice. My allergic reaction to them is more like the nut ones those people have so even a hint of them in the air is enough to induce vomiting.
