We won 2-0. Have earned a maximum 6 points against a hard working Bologna side (their reaction at the end says it all). It would be churlish to find fault, but some will because that's what they do.

Slot still not happy with alot of things in his post match interview, which bodes well. Comes across really well.

He tried the early direct pass, especially to Nunez almost all the time, makes me wonder if he does it to avoid Nunez going offside.

I mean if he takes a touch or two, to get better control, the chances are pretty big Nunez would wander offside.

But he does it when it's another player aswell.

As for Nunez, I'm sorry, I've passionately hoped he'd progress, but this has to be his season, and he looks, if anything, to have regressed. To adapt the famous lines about Tony Hancock's demise: 'He started by shutting out his instagram, then his twitter, then his manager, then his club, and eventually himself'. God knows what they do to try to encourage someone like that, but it hasn't yet worked. Come on, you daft fool, just CLICK!

Pretty predictable response. Yes, I saw the goal. Did you miss the pass at Wolves when he’s wide and tries to square the ball to the forward in the centre. That was easy for a player of his level. Same thing again tonight. He needs to get those passes to the man. No excuses for that level of sloppiness.

It was a wonderful cross for the goal and wonderful goal he scored. But those passes must hit the mark and soon it’ll really matter that they do.

All very reasonable points. As Dave said ( something like) I’ve never seen a world class player do so many shit things. I love him and respect the fact all players have weaknesses but some passes are so simple.  I think at this late day we just have to accept that’s who he is, as his overall contribution is huge.

I didn't much enjoy that tonight. Once Jota came on, things got better as he dropped deep and played more as a false 9, which supported the midfield. But our lack of ability to play through them was a worry. First half (after 1-0) was not great and clearly slot told them at half time no fucking about and we went long so often 2nd half from Ali, but that's not our game at all.

Still, we've won, got the points. 3 more wins and a draw and we're there.

Also, every time we went long we'd miss the first ball and nobody thought to get into position for the second ball; not once.

Yeah it wasn't great, I think we made them look a much better side than they were. But luckily they were pretty toothless - I can't imagine they score many goals.

First time for me that felt like a "Klopp" game.

since Arne has come in we have seemed to control the games. Being methodical rather than the heavy metal that we once knew.

yesterday seemed chaotic in parts

listen- Job done and we move on to the next game.

can't wait to see us play badly in a 12:30 KO against palace after a midweek European game.

We struggle a bit with these man marking teams.

they seemed a bit of a mix between man marking and zonal to me depending on the phase of the game. what was very clear though, is when we tried to build from the back and they man marked us and we struggled. i think we made it a bit to easy to mark us, most players were standing like statues accepting they were marked, giving the player in possession not enough options. we need to figure this kind of stuff out. Ipswich were a little like this in the opening game, but we were able to use the long ball in the 2nd half more effectively than we managed tonight outside of the opening 15.

Macca was mainly the deepest midfielder last night, I think Slot put him there as he knew they were going to go man for man and Macca would be better passing out from there, a couple of times he got it round the corner quickly to get out but more often than not we were static. Gravenberch is a ball carrier for me and last nights position is his best I think long term and I'd still like us to find a Zubimendi type but whether that can be done in January is another matter. If Slot still wants that player, it would be Macca I'd think who would be the one most worried.

I didn't see anything unusual. What are you hearing?

Rushies tash said they reacted at the end?

They stayed for quite a while applauding the away end. A few of them seemed quite emotional as if they'd just been beaten in a cup final. Which it possibly was to them - hence my thought that the game was probably tougher than perhaps Villa might experience in their next game.

The manager was an absolute loon who seemed to have had Mexican jumping beans for tea.

He said this.

Vincenzo Italiano comments on tonight’s match: ‘We go out with our heads held high, as we wanted to. We played a great game, apart from the episodes of the two goals, creating many chances with great personality, turning the pitch over every time we could, catching Liverpool by surprise who perhaps did not imagine they would find a Bologna like this. From today we bring home very important bricks for our path, with courage and quality’.

We still need 4 wins to go through right ? 18 points to skip play-in ?

I'm not sure, to be honest. I think it's theoretically possible for all the top 8 to win all their games, assuming they don't play each other.
