Late Saturday kick-off for this one, and a chance to rack up another win. Forest game aside, we have been very very good this season. If I could spot a general pattern, it's that we've looked sharper in the first hour than the last 30 minutes in our matches. When Slot has made substitutions, it's taken the subs and the remaining players a bit of time to understand the tactical revision. On the subject of patterns, I notice that our kick-off routine is unchanged. It's always played to the centre back to launch the ball upfield for us to contest. I would prefer a change-up where it's passed short and played around between us for a bit, because it's better for our defensive shape. It certainly doesn't give our opponents as much chance to get on the ball and make us press too early, and is less likely to result in us conceding the game's first chance (which very often results in a goal being chalked off for offside).

Wolves are currently propping up the table with the blooshite, and have already been knocked out of the League Cup by Brighton. They've signed a couple of players from Portugal (Jorge Mendes still has a big influence over his clients' career paths) and Brazil, not least Andre from Fluminense, who was linked with us for ages and apparently we were very close to doing a deal at one point. There's a bit of Renato Sanches-like hype around Andre. I'm sure there is a good player there, but the hype around him makes it strange that it's the likes of Fulham and Wolves that were prepared to take the plunge. You would have thought that Serie A clubs in particular, as well as the likes of Portugal's big 3, would have scooped him up ages ago. Kilman and Neto were their big sales. They still have the likes of Ait-Nouti, Cunha, Lemina, Joao Gomes (that's how people in and around the Brum region pronounce Joe Gomez by the way!), Hwang, Sarabia and Guedes.

As I write, we still have doubts over Ali and Harvey is still out, but everyone else should be available. Diogo looked better against West Ham than he has for a while. I'm loving the purpose and intensity Cody has added to his game. Lucho has been a real dynamo this season, and Mo has more than enough credit in the bank and you know he can click into gear again. Darwin by contrast seems more subdued, and Fede is still settling in. I would expect the ones that didn't play against West Ham to be in from the start, and I expect most of the subs will be starters at the weekend too.

How have our previous managers got on in their first away fixture against Wolves?

Souness...N/A

Houllier...21/01/2004...Wolves 1-1 Liverpool (Cheyrou)

I think their current league position is misleading: they're good enough to be comfortably mid-table.  I think our league position, in the top three, is about right.  I think Wolves will turn it around, but not this weekend.

Just get these beat, Reds.

This will be a difficult game, every game this season they've been the better side 1st half but seem to run out of steam. Jota back in against his former club, otherwise same as Bournemouth if Ali doesnt make it. 1-2 Reds.

Jota for Nunez and then the rest of the team should be the same as Bournemouth (unless Alisson is fit).

I can’t pretend I’ve seen a lot of Wolves this season, isn’t their keeper a bit dodgy with the ball at his feet? If so, we need to be making the most out of that and make them nervous from the start.

Just fucking win.

These should be put away like Forest should have. No excuses.

I think these will come out and play more than Forest did.

As StG has said, they’ve have tried to start fast every game this season.

Forest fundamentally didn’t want the ball against us. We didn’t help ourselves with the complete lack of tempo we played with, I’d hope tomorrow will be a little more open.

The XI won't spring up any surprises, besides Jota v Darwin the first XI is more or less set. It's actually been a refreshing change that we could get through the first 7 games with only 1 long term injury (& that came away from Liverpool). Going by Arne's presser, it sounds like Ali has a good chance to return to the side.

As far as Wolves go, this could end up being a banana skin of a fixture if we're not at it from the off. They have the players up top with Hwang Cunha and Guedes/Sarabia to cause us problems.

Fast start leading to an early goal would be ideal but the main goal will and always be 3 points followed by no injuries.

I agree with this, I came to the thread to post something smilar.

I have watched a few of the Wolves games this season and they have played a lot better than the points they have got suggest.

We are a much better team though and it would be a huge disappointment if we dont come home with 3 points.

Sounds like a few of theirs are sick…

You watch it will have hit a few absolute nobodies and those alone. 4th choice keeper, 18 year old left back who has played 3 minutes off the bench all season, a heavily out of form forward who warms bench at best and a 16 year old.

But the sky and media narrative will be they are depleted!

Wolves are never really any good but they always have a couple different makers, players who have the level to play Champions League football. This team's no different.

I always think they're a very awkward team for us. I never expect a win against them. They're probably as poor a team as they have been since they came up, but that just makes me think every dog has its day. I think we'll need a really good performance to beat them.

It's feels weird so many Saturdays. 6 games so far and 5 on a Saturday. Another onemnext week with another shit 12.30.

Win this and go top.

Yeah 6 games in and all that - but still.

If we come away from today top, and yes it's only 6 games, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking around and thinking there maybe a chance here with the way the stars are aligning. Let's get through today first though.
