Also pretending that Gakpo was offside. He didn't look it to me.

If there was VAR he might have been called offside, but there isn’t and as far as the lino can see his torso is behind the defenders.

Even if he was offside it’s by the end of his big toe and would have never been given before VAR anyway.

Pretty dull for the most part. The front 4 first half didn't really gel, mainly because the 2 in midfield couldn't play a forward pass and the back 4 were in no rush to get the ball up the pitch.

A 5-1 win but felt a game where only a couple players did well throughout, defensive panic stations all game which I guess was to be expected.

Had hoped we'd seen the last of Gomez at CB, guess not. New CB needed 1st Jan and no later.

Jones in particular.

I like Jones, I think he’s a good footballer, he isn’t half annoying though.

He definitely takes a touch too many or doesn’t quite get his pass off quick enough.

I saw a stat last week, I think it was, that of all the top 6 sides, he’s the player who passes the ball backwards out of every player. Certainly that he passes the ball backwards too often.

As soon as he started taking more responsibility with it and pushing forwards with the ball, he set up a great goal for Jota and nearly got one himself.

This should be talking point number two:

Thing is... (a bit like the Phil Jones one everyone loves), I think it worked. Kilman hesitates and it allows Kelleher to take a final step out to the ball.

He used to do that more, and does it with England. I’m sure Klopp said he does it too much and needs to work on when it’s right to make that decision. Klopp will have been right but I think it harmed his confidence to play his natural game. Hopefully the more offensive minded midfield set up will suit him.

Bar the last 10 minutes or so, I thought it was quite a patchy performance. To be expected when many of the starting line-up were short of minutes.

Lopetegui was in full-on "Twiiiiiiiiiiice!" mode, and none of the penalty shouts were valid.

Don't know if it's been brought up in here, but what was going on with that West Ham assistant's hair? It was like a pompadour and high top all in one, the fucking oddball.

[EDIT] Look up a few posts!

What the fuck was all that? Whose idea was that? Focus on one game.

The media is so London-obsessed, and Arsenal's resurgence these past two years has generated more interest amongst the hacks than all of Klopp's time as manager combined. I saw something at the weekend suggesting the Arse-City 'rivalry' has become the greatest since the old Wenger-Ginsoak games. Are they on crack???

Why Sky thought either us or Hammers fans would be sitting watching a game thinking, 'I wonder how the Gooners are doing?' is a fecking mystery. A couple of times they shrank the picture showing us when there was goalmouth action going on - really awful decisions.

Nice of Sky to keep cutting to the Arse game - like anyone watching our game gave a damn.

Don't know about that. I was dying to know how that 16yr old keeper got on that proved Arsenal players were really injured and not just going down to stop the game. Wonder if he'll have to play Saturday?

Jones was outstanding in his last 18 months at U21 level (as an 18-19 year old) playing off the left in an advanced forward role, scoring and assisting loads. Klopp tried to do with him what he did with Gini, which I feel has harmed Jones’ natural game. He’s at his best when he has the freedom to drive at the defence, but that didn’t necessarily fit in with Klopp’s preferred workaholic, prosaic midfield set up. He was outstanding in the LC game against W Ham last season and grabbed a couple of goals.

You can look like a creative force at youth level because you are physically and technically better than the opposition but that doesn't mean you'll have the instincts to make correct decisions at the highest level when everything speeds up.

I have never watched Jones and thought he should play further up the pitch. He’s like Elliott; his level of creative threat is high for a midfielder, it's not high for someone playing further up.
