Gravenberch fully deserved that PotM award last night. He was immense. Why did we never play him as a defensive midfielder before? He's done brilliantly there, but Klopp only ever used him as a left sided 8 or occasionally even a left winger.

He was basically playing as a lone defensive midfielder last night for large parts as well. In possession Mac Allister was quite advanced and Szoboszlai was dropping deeper than usual.

Szoboszlai was practically playing as a striker for large parts of the game.

AC Milan played an EDM version of Smells Like Teen Spirit. They got the bumholing they deserved just for that.

It shows how "down with the kids" I am that I just spent a few minutes trying to figure out how Milan submitted an Early Day Motion about Nirvana.

Milan are shite, even their own fans say they are shite. They were the perfect opponents for us after Forest. A big name who currently aren't very good.

and also because they're a big club at home in the champions league, they can't just shut up shop and play dead like forest did for 60 mins on saturday till we got frustrated. they have to come out. we are a good team winning the ball back - regardless of if it's via pressing. cutting off passing lanes or winning 2nd balls. and we counter well. and we're maybe starting to take a good set piece against a team that is known for their bad defence of set pieces. they were the perfect opponent as you say.

Commentator said that 16 points should see you into the top eight; so four wins and a draw from the next seven matches should be enough.

Not sure that's enough.

The likes of Arsenal and Villa have easy games. Bayern,Real,Barcelona, Juventus.

We have the 3rd hardest draw according to rankings

I don't like this set up as by games 7/8 teams will know where they are and you'll see weakened teams and I wouldn't be shocked to see some just played out for teams to get what they need

This is a 'supercomputer' prediction

That's some massive over-rating of Inter Milan. Just had a look at their fixtures and they go away to City and Leverkusen as well as having Arsenal at home.

I read the supercomputer also made them clear 3rd favourites behind City and Real which just shows what a load of bollocks it all is. I'm guessing they have a big weighting from their final the other year despite them having shite opposition in every knockout round.

It's also clearly assuming that the league form of the likes of Villa, Girona, Leverkusen and PSV will convert to the Champions League...

"Supercomputer" is bollocks as well, just an excuse to not share your methodology. A weighted average PPG quotient based on recent performance and a sensitivity analysis. Fuck off. It's not a supercomputer, you just bought an @Risk licence...

The first part of this I was happily nodding away in my chair. The second part had me wondering around the room realising I know nothing about anything.

Sorry, I'm still writing that report...

Main point, it's some journalist bluffing their way through some analysis with an excel add-on to help them sell it as a simulation.

I'm guessing the 'super computer' predicted our results as

Millan - Win

Bologna - Win

Leipzig - Loss

Leverkusen - Loss

Madrid - Loss

Girona - Loss

Lille- Win

PSV - Draw

The most ridiculous thing is that if 8/9 points is enough for a playoff place we are already a third of the way there!

Yeah its pretty mad.

They are drawing to the likes of Genoa and Monza in Italy, yet are somehow going to get 7 out of 8 wins in this format.

So last night was one of our three wins?

I suspect that this computer might not be as super as it claims.

Yeah I think we've fucked the computer prediction on night 1. It's had us losing every big game

4 loses

Milan,Real,Leverkusen,Leipzig

3 wins

PSV,Lille,Bologna

1 Draw

Girona

Would be my guess

While it was over 6 games (and across 32 teams rather than 36) both United and Newcastle would have been in the top 24 last season.

United only got 4 points so it could work out even less than 8.
