Dominant victory at Old Trafford, followed by shock 0-1 home defeat to weaker opposition.

Oasis reforming.

Hello again 1990s.

Might be just a feeling but it does seem like when we batter the mancs that we turn in a shite performance next up....7-0 followed by a loss at Bournemouth....5-0 followed by a 2-2 draw at home to Brighton...Today.

Our entire left side disappeared in the second half. As a result, we tried to force everything through the middle. Gakpo and Darwin seemed out of touch with tempo and positioning.

We forced everything through the middle all game but that's a clear potential issue with asking your full backs to play more conservatively when the opposition's defence is in a low block.

We barely got to the by-line all game.

Not a good first half, and a really terrible second half. We never managed to create enough, and after they took the lead we didnt look like we had neither the confidence nor the quality to get back in the game.

Hopefully Slot and his team will learn from this, as we’ll face plenty of teams with that kind of tactics.

Still should’ve managed the draw, as their goal was a schoolboy error by Gakpo. Unless winning a fair play award is more important than winning the game, you need to stop the opponent there 10 times out of ten. Every professsional team will do that.

One of the few positives was Gravenberch with another excellent performance. Apart from him I thought Trent did ok in the first half, along with Diaz and Szoboszlai. The latter two faded as the game went on, probably to some degree because of the international games. I’d say the team as a whole was probably affected by that to an extent, but no excuse for not creating more against these.

Most disappointing was Salah, that was a truely awful performance. Robertson also poor, as were Jota, Gakpo and Nunez.

Klopp's sheer force of personality and will won us so many matches and points, particularly last year.  We can't possibly replicate that with Slott (can we?). Expectations need to be adjusted.

It will take time but I agree with your previous post, it will be an up and down season.

100% down to the break. The players haven't been training with the squad so they'll not have the things they've been learning fresh in mind. Over the months this will happen less as they fully learn new habits and patterns etc. Not too worried, says nothing about the players ability etc, we'll get the odd game like this where they revert to type a bit but it takes some time to take everything on board.

Of course it does, these players have had many a stinker over the last couple of years.

Its the sloppiness that's most disappointing. Some of the final passes were awful. Total waste of possession and hard work in the build up.

Yeah every time we had the ball you could see we'd try some panic fancy ball way too early, Slot will be bollocking them for not being smart and pacing the game. We'll see this every so often as it's hard to unlearn patterns of play etc after years with another manager and coaching staff.

But then we'd be hitting shit crosses that no one gets near and we'd be moaning about that. It never works for us, most of our forward line aren't competing against grock center backs.

They don't have to be high crosses. De bruyne whips them in low but any ball in the box is something for the defenders to actually deal with. Forest had fuck all dangerous defending to do today.

Well that was shit.

I guess the honeymoon is over already. That performance throws up as many questions as it does answers.

Best player was Gravenberch I thought.

Said before ko that I was surprised by another unchanged side, given our hectic schedule and some of the lads looked really leggy today. We expect more.

That was shite. Forest set out to disrupt out play and players from the start. Oliver didn't help by giving them free kicks for very little and all that crap pissed our players off and lost their heads. Mo was one of the worst today

Pretty shocked at just how bad that second half was. I lost count of how many times players didn't seem to even be ready for it when a pass was played to them. Perhaps it was just a shock if they received a pass that was even vaguely accurate as the number of overhit or underhit passes in that second half was absolutely ridiculous. Even the most mediocre of Liverpool teams over the years would normally at least  have been capable of laying siege to the Forest goal in those final 20 minutes after going a goal down, but we couldn't get going at all.

It's only 1 game and I don't want to overreact, but it was so bad that it's certainly tempered expectations for what we can achieve this season. The result is bad but the manner in which it occurred is by far my biggest concern.

So it seems we are still good overall but not good enough. It's going to be a fight for top 4 not because of this one game but because we've seen this from these players so often and the club doesn't think there's any players in the world who can improve on them. If Klopp found it tough Slot definitely is.

Beefy in the house!!!

At least the post match cunt calling will have extra spice.

I’ve been keeping my distance.

im in Majorca and decided to go and watch us and we are no different from last year. Still too slow, still can’t break a low block. Still have nothing off the bench. Forest were terrible but we were slow and casual.

first time I e seen us lose in 30 years of being away. You can read books on stats until your blue in the face but the fact remains nothing was done in the summer to move the needle so the same issues will continue to persist.
