Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, The Who and The Kinks all much bigger in terms of cultural importance. I'd say Joy Division/New Order are a fair way ahead of both as well, as far as Manc bands go.

I don't necessarily disagree, I’ve clarified my comment.

Maybe than the Stone Roses but Oasis as a cultural phenomenon are right up there wether you like them or not. Apart from maybe The Pistols none of them were bigger bands than Oasis in terms of impact.

There's different ways to look at importance, Oasis were absolutely massive here for a few years & will have inspired thousands of people to start bands etc. but did they move music forward at all or break any new ground? Absolutely not.

So they were massively important in some ways but not at all in others.

Hmm, definitely an argument to at least say Cheshire…

Anyway, my point stands. Huge British cultural musical events…

Beetlemania.

Rolling Stones at Hyde Park.

Led Zepplin at Knebworth.

Queen at Wembley.
Stone Roses at Stone Island.

Oasis at Knebworth

Etc etc

The closest The Charlatans come to this list was being one of the opening acts for Oasis at Knebworth.

The Beatles! Spelt them wrong twice. Negged.

I agree regarding charlatans though, I know some people swear they're the greatest band of the era but I've never been able to see it. OP may as well have said The Bluetones...

Oasis ended without much trace? Nonsense mage

If you start listing the artists influenced by The Beatles, Stones and Zeppelin, it would take forever and you'd be listing current artists.

Oasis?  I dunno; maybe they influenced Shed Seven.

I misread that as "brands" and it made perfect sense.

The influence that Oasis have had on anything since the mid-nineties is...

The Libertines, The Strokes, The Killers, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys the list goes on. They’ve just sold out a tour in hours and had to sell more dates. Liam Gallagher played in-front of 80’000 people 3 nights on the bounce at Knebworth a couple of years ago and probably half the people there were still under 16 when Oasis split up. Many even younger.

To suggest Oasis haven’t had any influence beyond the 90s is borderline troll behaviour or your head really is that firmly in the sand.

Popularity is not the same as influence. Selling loads of tickets isn't enough, on its own, to make a band "important".

Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes were clearly influenced by bands from a generation before Oasis. The Killers had a Britpop-flavoured debut album, but have lasted longer than Oasis, because they had more than one string to their bow. The same is probably true of Kasabian, but I honestly can't say I've listened to them that much.  I never really got into The Libertines, but I'd be surprised if they had a moment of inspiration when they first heard that you can rhyme "hall" and "cannonball".

You love Oasis, I get it. But there's nothing wrong with loving them for what they are; there's no need to pretend they're something else.

I'm with Stig here, Oasis had thousands of kids up & down the country starting bands, they were very influential in that regard & pretty important culturally for a good two years or so.

Spoiler alert...they didn't. They did have a singer who clearly modelled himself on LG to a laughable extent, except it's hard to pull off that authentic Manc swagger when you are from Leicester.
