Mohamed Salah v John Barnes

John Barnes or Mohamed Salah.

  1. 1. Who’s the better player?

Recommended Posts

It might well have been done before but anyway….

I don’t want any “depends on which position” or “different eras” rational arguments. Also, no funny business commenting on the age/weight of Digger in comparison to the Egyptian King today. We all get old, some of us get fat.

It’s a simple choice, just make it. Who, at their peak, is the better player?

As @Code will no doubt remind us, Salah has the numbers. John Barnes was ‘poetry in motion’ though and gets my vote all day long.

Mo is so good, but, JCB was a phenomenon, I’ve said it before, built like a prop forward but with the grace and balance of a ballet dancer, would have been kicked to fuck if the defenders could’ve got near enough or weren’t bouncing off him.

Digger, but both in my all time XI

Yeah my all time XI would have no positional consideration, it'd be Stevie G in an advanced position plus 10 forwards

Barnes without a shadow of a doubt.

For the 40+ years I’ve been following Liverpool, I reckon only Barnes and Van Dijk may at some stage have been the best player in the world, while representant us.

Behind these two probably Gerrard, Suarez and Dalglish for me.

Next bracket would be the likes of Salah, Rush and Souness. Perhaps also Keegan, but that was slightly earlier.

Think it was QPR at home, danced past all them, it really was poetry in motion.

I’m edging towards Mo as his output in numbers is on a different level to practically every other player we’ve had.

John Barnes also walked into a team of title-winners. Mo had a big hand in getting us to that level.

Like you said though, a privilege to have seen both.

My vote goes on nostalgia bias as no one will ever beat Barnes for me, he's the reason I support Liverpool

Mo has been exceptional for us, but the above is exactly why it's Barnes for me.
