I'm actually not sure about this. Last time Edwards was in charge he wasn't afraid to spend huge money on a player if they could have a huge impact (Alisson, van Dijk).

Obviously it would require some big sales to make it possible, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see something like Nunez and Kelleher sold for £100m and then we spend that on a big difference-maker up front. I mean, we're not getting Yamal/Mbappe/Haaland, but someone like Musiala or Rodrygo wouldn't be that crazy to imagine, I wouldn't think?

It took selling coutinho for £140m to make the Ali and VVD signing work and Edwards had klopp pushing him. Edwards is in a much stronger position now. And we're not selling anyone in that range at this moment, least of all because outside of England there seems little appetite for massive transfer fees.

If we sign anyone in Jan or the summer,  it'll be in the normal 30-60m range.

Even if Endo and Tsimikas are replaced with like for like we are pretty close to the wire on bringing players in. If we lose Kelleher,Gomez,Trent you'd need home grown players or a smaller squad

Tyler Dibling should be a name which is very close to the top of our transfer list.

Young, home grown, heading down with Southampton, and the best player we have faced this season. He has central midfielder stamped all over him.

Agree, I've seen him a few times and he looks like a really talented player.

The one concern with him is that he went from Southampton's academy to Chelsea a few years ago but went back to Southampton a few months later as he struggled to settle. He was only a kid at the time but seems like he might not be keen on leaving them.

His injury record isn’t great, is it?

It's not bad

He's missed 33 games since the start of 2019/20. Most in 3 spells of a ankle injury a couple of years back, did his hamstring last year and injured his ankle earlier this season and missed 6 games. I'm more concerned he isn't a big goalscorer. 24 goals for Brighton in 49 games, 14 have been pens. He's looked decent t when I've seen him this year though, 4 goals and 2 assists in 9 games(591 mins)

Liverpool sign Lucas Clarke from Man City

As confirmed by journalist Lewis Bower and the official LFC Academy Instagram channel, Liverpool have signed teenage centre-back Lucas Clarke from Manchester City’s youth ranks.

The 16-year-old is a left-footed defender who’ll now link up with the Reds’ under-16 squad, in the hope of progressing through the age groups to eventually become part of the senior setup at Anfield.

The youngster took to his own Instagram profile to celebrate the transfer, posting: ‘Delighted to have signed for @liverpoolfc can’t wait to get started

List of players available to sign contracts for free in January.

Some great and exiting players on this list, I’m 100% certain we will have considered many of them already.

Will Hughes there.  We wanted him before.  Now's the chance to strike!

Jonathan David is an intriguing one. I've never really watched him play but what I've read of him suggests he's quite well suited to a Bobby Firmino sort of role. Linking the attack and midfield and posing a serious goal threat, with less of the effortless skill but more pace and power than the Brazilian. If Slot chooses to stick with keeping our more prolific types in the wide positions, someone with David's skillset would be a good fit. He's free to talk to clubs in January about a summer move on a free. We'll get to see how he does in January when we come up against Lille ourselves.

There have been a few stories about Brighton's Joao Pedro in recent days, another suited to the Bobby role. He would be very expensive but ticks the recruitment team's box regarding PL experience. His goals-per-game is better than I thought, but around half of those are penalties. Is he potent enough in open play or at attacking set-pieces though?

A few jarg sites have linked us to River Plates creative/attacking midfielder Franco Mastantuono. 17 year old with a £29m release clause. Apparently Real Madrid and the Mancs are desperate to sign him.

I would absolutely love a direct South American signing like this. It’s about as likely as us signing Zidane back in the day though. We’ll probably buy him from Brighton for £70m next year.

I agree, I can see us trying to buy the best in the world IF we think it's the best use of our money at any given time.

That's not to say I think it's likely we get one, the proof is in our pursuits of Zubimendi, Bellingham, Tchouameni, Caceido.

But maybe Slot is more focused on finding low friction components for his machine rather than over-complicated expensive parts.  Or maybe he feels that way about defence and midfield but he likes his forwards to have a bit more experience.  Not sure what to make of the Chiesa move at this point, but I think we were all taken back a bit because he is a big name with a big reputation.  It may yet prove to be a huge success.

But we also need to be mindful of the big part that Nyoni and Ngumoha could play next season.  Both have the potential to simply be too good to ignore very soon.

Rayan

Cucho Hernandez

& Yarek Gasiorowski will conclude our summer business.

Maybe Sean Longstaff too seeing as we need a back up DM.
