Nicolas Anelka. We loaned him, he had an exemplary attitude and did well and we signed El Hadj Diouff instead. Not what he meant but the outcome was the same.

He did well for us when he played, he wanted it to work.

It’s based on whether the player we loan  wants it to work out or not.

Anelka did.

Moses & Kabak just weren’t very good.

Sahin was played in completely the wrong position.

Tevez wanted to join the mancs and made it work.

Adebyour wanted to join Spurs and made it work.

The obviously don’t all work out, it depends on the player & situation. You’d hope the possibility significant game time & hopefully challenging for the league & CL is a good incentive.

IF Tchouameni has a questionable attitude (and nobody knows if he does or not), given him 6 months to see if he wants us and the end and if we want him. It’s common sense.

If both parties are happy to commit for the next 5+ years, no need for the loan and crack on.

Are there any examples of players who we've had on loan who really worked out?

Loans are a kopout IMO, if we want a player, we should go all in & buy him.

Odegaard has been a great signing for arsenal. I'm pretty sure that started as a loan with an option to buy.

I don't see the issue with a loan as long as we get an option to buy. We get to have a close look at the player, with nothing more than a risk of a few months wages and whatever the loan fee. If the player still has the desire after failing at Madrid, will know almost immediately. We might not learn enough to see if he has the talent, but you can't make a player work who doesn't have the desire.

We don't usually sign knobheads.

Tchouaméni strikes me as a knobhead.

I don't know much about him aside from what he's done on the pitch. What makes him a knobhead? I quite like the fact he's been determined to make it work there, even if he's never hit the levels they expected of him. And I think it's perfectly logical he moved there rather than here a few years ago.

One thing I've been thinking is how clubs will view someone like Marmoush.

When we signed Diaz, he had only had like one phenomenal half season, but he seemed to be someone who had loads of untapped talent, that somehow had only really started to manifest when he was about 25. Had a couple average seasons in Portugal, and then boom.

Marmoush is also 25, also just starting to explode, also had a couple average seasons before that. He seems Iike a fantastic player, and especially profile, but how do you figure out if that's fool gold, I have no idea. Maybe Salah could speak to his work ethic and ability.
