I've seen a few rumours about us going in for Guehi next summer.

If the plan is to replace Alison with Mama, Trent with Bradley, VVD with Guehi and Salah with Chiesa and Diaz with Gordon I think we'll be significantly weaker overall.

C’mon mate, that’s a significant stretch.

Let’s see how it all pans out first.

We also committed to a £75m winger and a £50m midfielder this summer only for circumstances changed.

Conspiracy theorists claim that we never really intended on signing them anyway…

We weren't committed to a £75m winger though, were we? Newcastle made the approach to us, so we thought there may be a bargain there (not criticising the club for that), but when he wasn't a bargain anymore, then we went back to monitoring (also no criticism). It was rehashed with a possible Gomez swap, making it more of a £35-40m winger.

I don't have any criticism of the club for the Gordon (lack of) signing, but we don't need to pretend we were on the cusp of turning into Midas, either.

They've gone early!

On current form he'd be behind Gravenberch in the pecking order.

It's the hope that kills you.

(For the record: I did mention here a few times I would not be surprised if we'll come back for Zubi at a later time, kind of like the VVD situation)

I don't think it is a stretch though.

The data nerds will see it as a very efficient way of replacing those players.

We know that we aren't in talks with Mo or VVD, so they will have replacements in mind.

The above was the story at the time. Subsequent stories are it was all agreed and then they backed out.

I’m just repeating what the LFC journos said.

I haven't seen any journalist say we would have signed Gordon anyway, without either selling Diaz (who was widely known to be available for between £45-60m) or Gomez (£35-45m). Either way, we didn't have a £75m commitment to AG.

I think there will be a method behind the clubs thought process on this. Just because we aren’t privy to it or likely understand it (as supporters, it seems

simple), doesn’t mean there isn’t one.

I’d like it sorting ASAP as much as the next supporter, I don’t want distractions as the season goes on. I’m reasonably relaxed about it at the moment.

Journalists all say the players want to stay. You can hardly say body language, interviews & performances give hint of discontent at the moment. In fact, they’ve never looked more relaxed, hungry and fresh.

The whole story was the Gomez and Gordon swap / separate deals wasn’t just mooted, it was fundamentally agreed until they backed out when, they realised they could sell some other shite. There were plans for a medical for Gordon in Leipzig.

Don’t want to sound rude, this story has been done to death. If you Google it, you’ll find it all.

I was pretty sure what was reported after the initial flurry was the deal was agreed with Newcastle for the 75m Gordon, 45m Gomez, medicals were booked for both players at the euros and then Newcastle managed to sell 2 fringe players that solved their FFP issues and pulled out of the deal.

So, you're saying if we bin all our best players and replace them with worse players, our team would be weakened?

It's a theory, I suppose.

Daft question… would we have to wait until January to sign Zubimendi?

Hear me out…

The release clause wouldn’t be paid by us to Sociedad, it would be paid by us to Zubimendi.

Zubimendi would then pay Sociedad, buying himself out of his contract and effectively becoming a free agent.

Free agents don’t need to wait for transfer windows to sign for clubs, there is no “transfer” involved.

I’m sure there is something that protects Sociedad, it seems a strange set up they have in Spain. I wonder if anybody has ever tested the waters?

WHAT???

Guess given he's been frozen out the Napoli team for at least half the season this is a last resort way for him to keep playing/knock his wages off the wage book at Napoli until I assume either Chelsea or Saudi come back for him in January or summer.

I don't think it's possible to do this. If it was Chelsea would have almost certainly done it by now.
