Now Gravenberch has shown this form I think we can do without splashing out on a new defensive midfielder. He has been a revelation.

Player we spent millions on to save us millions.

There's no way I'd get in a specialised DM now given Gravenberch is nailing the role, I wouldn't like to change his position either to bring in Zubimendi. We need an 8 as Dom isn't playing great there and he could be used as in rotation with Macca/new AM.

If Zubimendi can play the Macca role as well, then that's different. Gives us options but not at the expense of Grav at DM.

Isn’t Gravenberch’s future more as an attacking midfielder and wouldn’t signing Zubimendi in January help to prove our ambition to Trent?

Why change it whilst he's thriving? This is the same lad that was bombed out of Bayern and struggled to get a game here last season whilst playing as an orthodox midfielder.

Who did we go with instead of Werner?

Jota?

Jurgen is a magnificent manager, but he got the rub of the green with the unavailability of some of his first choices.

Jota instead of Werner, Salah instead of Brandt, Mane instead of Gotze, even Tsimikas instead of Jamal Lewis worked out better!

People have a weird idea of midfield roles. There's nothing in Gravenberch's game that indicates he would be a better attacking midfielder than what he is doing in his current role. Same with Jones. It was apparently borderline offensive when Macca was a lone 6 last season and I've lost count how many times people have said Elliott isn't a midfielder.

I do agree now you probably can't buy a 6. You have to let Gravenberch run with it. We can replace Endo next season.

I'd probably just get someone who is excellent with the ball, regardless of midfield role.

Not one for January, but I like Robinson at Fulham for left back. I know he's relatively old, but he looks like a good attacking full back.

He's really kicked on in the last 12 months but probably too late to get a move here. He'll be 28 by the start of next season.

I strongly think we should still try for another midfielder in January.

I know we have the numbers for players to play there (I think I counted 8/9 last month), I'm not sure the quality is there if we get a medium term injury to somebody. Jones has done a good job for England u21's there, I think Elliott could do a good job, I think Szoboszlai could do a reasonable job there (that would require a re-jig of the current set up...Chiesa at 10?), Slot doesn't seem to fancy Endo, Morton & McConnell are untested at the highest level and I don't like Trent in there.

If we're serious about challenging for multiple trophies again, unless those not getting game time can make a significant step up, I think we need more depth in there.

Have we played a decent side yet? Not really. It's gone great for Slot and Gravenberch and so on. But it's early days and we've effectively had a really soft draw.

By mid-December - after the tough upcoming run of.fixtures - we'll have a better idea about what (if anything) we need in January.

You're not far wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted with the start, but dare I say, it's eerily similar to ten hags first season when they started the season well, because they hadn't played anybody of note.

But I do like the fact we don't look at all uncomfortable, forest aside, we've looked super comfortable in every game. And that's a positive

We should also have a clearer picture of who - if anybody - is going to sign an extension.

When you've already shown you can lose to a side like Forest, you shouldn't be counting any team out as unworthy of a win......every game no matter where you are in the table will present a different kind of test.

I don't look at any team and think these can outplay us for 90mins and hand us a proper beating. Sure they'll be games where tactically we get it wrong......maybe screwed over by bad refereeing and lose games but in reality there is nothing to fear with City, Arsenal or Madrid and there certainly isn't anything to suggest we won't rise to the occasion.

Our fixtures from 20/10 to 4/12 are - Chelsea, Leipzig, Arsenal, Brighton, Brighton again, Leverkusen, Villa, Southampton, Real Madrid, Man City, and Newcastle. Should have a decent idea by December if we're any good.

*Derby on 7/12 but, you know, they're shite.

Didn't Ten Hag lose three of his first four games?

I don't think we'll know how good we are until November-December but I do think we can already say we look like our players are actually playing to some kind of plan - which I don't think United under Ten Hag ever have.

Its funny as we both defend in a 4-2-4 initially with Fernandes and Szoboszlai playing similar roles, that's where the similarity ends though defensively. We obviously have better players, infact Fernandes for Dom is the only swap I'd consider and even then Fernandes has done fuck all this season going forward. You'd have to dig deeper into execution and effort as to why they look so much worse than us defending in very a similar set up.

He's starting every game for Madrid.
