It does seem there could be some serious turnover upcoming.

That's why it's even more important to win the league this season. If we get that done and then stuff changes and we get younger in some areas, I will be fine with that. There will be a nice finality to it.

Yeah, I'm much the same. These things have their cycles. It's definitely feeling like the last dance for this group of players as a team. Hard to extend Salah if he wants a pay bump, and harder still to extend Van Dijk or Trent if they want comparable wages to Salah. That's why I think they might let Salah leave in order to retain Van Dijk.

Then there's the left back situation. If we win the league Robertson could be gone with a pat on the back, and Tsimikas stays as back up. Add in a CB for Quansah going (hopefully just on loan), a midfielder Slot rates, and a 9 who scores and isn't made of bread sticks, and that's a hell of a tall order for one window.

I think that's where some of the frustration over our inactivity, both in the markets and contracts comes from. Hughes has done so little thus far, there's almost no chance he'll sort all that. Still, I'm kinda looking forward to seeing how things evolve.

At the end of last season most people would have said a midfielder and central defender was enough. They're still on your shopping list and you've added a Salah replacement, LB replacement and a Jota/Nunez replacement. And I'm guessing a Trent replacement, unless you think he's staying? So 6 players. I don't see anyway we do that level of business.

There's been plenty of talk of a left back. My guess is we'll shuffle that position. If vvd stays, we'll ride it out at centre back. If Trent goes, we'll use Bradley and if we can't get someone from the U21s ready, we'll bring a young understudy to Bradley. I think endo will go. But he could be replaced by Morton/bajcetic. If Nunez goes, I think we'd go with danns or get a backup 9 who costs next to nothing (like that bellend at Everton) or a young South American or something. Then use the Nunez money to fund a right winger.

So my bet right now would be 2-4 players

A left back

Young right back (which could be promote from within)

A cheap or free backup 9 (which could be danns)

A 50m type right winger.

We'd fund that by selling endo, robbo or kostas, doak.

The rule for me is always, think what we need and they'll do loads less.

Yeah to me, if we cap off this season, it will be fun. There will be so many possibilities. How much continuity or turnover do you want.

It's not worth thinking about if we don't win big stuff, though. The uncertainty surrounding the squad will be brutal in that outcome. This little 5 year era post title will have been a failure.

Kerkez

Elliot Anderson/Baleba

Kulusevski/Cherki

If Darwin and Diaz do move on then I'd be looking at 2

Cunha/Joao Pedro/David/Delap

A few I'd like us to look at this summer

Need a reserve/3rd choice keeper depending on what the plans are for Mamardashvili. Maybe soneibe like Amgus Gunn(Danny Ward is aswell but he's poor, maybe as a emergency squad place to fill out the home grown quota)who's out of contract as a 3rd choice or you promote from U21 if there's anyone good enough

Kerkez is too popular now. Can't see there being a modicum of value in that deal.

We've been linked in the past but I could see us seriously looking at Ederson now. At this point, he's shown he can do pretty much everything in midfield, he's got the frame and athleticism for the league. He's got big matches in Europe under his belt at this point but yet he's also not played a crazy amount of football. Born same year as Rice and he's played like 12 000 fewer minutes. 2 years left on the deal this summer and Hughes knows Atalanta as well.

It's one of those where so many things make sense that if we truly rate the player, he has to be on the list.

I don't know, we're probably the only ones with the flexibility to offer a structured deal that would suit them. I guess City too, but who knows where they'll be in the summer and they seem to be after that other lad from Italy.

I think a deal over a few years that gives them PSR security is probably better than a one-off payday. Decent chunk up front with a few installments and bonuses would suit them and not blow too much of a hole in our budget.

Of course they might turn around and want £70m or something ridiculous for a full back and then it's never going to happen.

Cherkhi has a verbal agreement with Lyon that he can leave if anyone pays £19m for him.

Wouldn't this come under "opportunistic" for our mingebag overlords?

Temperamental, really annoying group of people around him, talented but wildly inconsistent and we don't really have anywhere for him to play at the moment.

A right winger, left winger or #10.

Is he better than any of the other players we have in those positions?

Also, why would anybody pay £20m now when he’s available for free in June? Real Madrid offered £20m for Trent, on that basis this lad is worth about £5m.

Didn't know he was free in the summer. Though Lyon were just desperate for a sake because of their finances.

I've been thinking on the Andy Robertson situation and I think I've gone off at a tangent.( You guys will put me straight)

In summary, I think we have the Saudis to thank for our current health, in terms of having a rejuvenated midfield.

Both Fabinho and Henderson had fallen of a cliff in terms of productivity on the pitch, and I wondered at the time, who would buy these two?

With the terms of their contracts, without the Saudis, I think FSGs approach would have been to keep them, as they basically cost so much money in wages. Quality signings plus wages would have exploded the algorithm with all of them at the club, but for the Saudis.

So back to Robbo, he has had a similar experience with his performances, and with other funding to be done, particularly with Mo, Virg and Trents futures being uncertain and the obvious need to upgrade Endo and Darwin, plus Slots ( from my perspective) lack of faith in Quansah and Elliot, I'd think that we will be keeping Robbo to the end of his contract in 2026.

In summary, thank you Saudi Arabia !
