Welcome to Liverpool, Federico Chiesa

He was arguably the only attacking player who showed even the slightest degree of imagination, guile or good movement in the second half, and that's when he finally got a pass (at one point he had to pretty much play the ball forward to himself because there was no one else anywhere other than hiding like a coward behind a defender). If he'd gone deep in search of the ball - and that, for most of the match, was his only hope of getting the ball - he'd have been attacked for his lack of tactical discipline. As he actually moved where he was obviously meant to move, he was rendered a spectator for large parts of the game. Criticising him for that, when he had probably never in his LIFE played in a team full of poorer players, is at best disingenuous.

Praised him last game but yesterday he was absolutely brutal. Shocking performance from an international footballer.

It's like these fuckers can't play on a bobbly pitch. They are too used to perfect grass and an even bounce.

I think Slot and players like Chiesa would have had a wake up call yesterday. Welcome to English football. Don't let it happen again.

I think the only compliment he gets from the game yesterday was he kept showing for the ball. He didn't much want to hold onto it though when he got it and would kick it anywhere to avoid being tackled.

But he wasn't the only one to play badly. Really, it's hard to think of anyone who's performance was above mediocre.

Arne, you really must try harder in English football. We are all disappointed in you......

You might argue that your team, including "these fuckers" are cruising the premier league, but that is the exception, rather than the rule.

You've also done that on good pitches, so it looks far better than it is.

No. He was monumentally shit.

The fact virtually everyone else was as well doesn’t change that.

He was but there’s explanations for these things. Messi wouldn’t have looked much better surrounded by utter trash either.

So a player thats started three games against modest opposition and had some scant minutes off the bench on a handful of occasions is just expected to turn up and produce the goods?

Ever heard of form? You have to play your way into it first and in this setup he doesnt stand a chance.

Why are you referring to our players in this way again?

We signed him because he was cheap and we thought we could get him fit and firing to a level he was at 4 or 5 years ago before he did his ACL.

I'm sure certain people at the club were hoping he could become a genuine potential replacement for Salah.

In reality though he looks miles off it and not suited to us or the demands of English football.

I'd be very surprised if he's not on loan to an Italian club next season.

Well how would you like me to refer to them as? Shite? Garbage? Mediocrity? All means the same thing.

I just don't expect to see someone talk like that on a Liverpool forum, about our young players.

Saying they were shite yesterday isn't the same as calling them 'utter trash' either IMO. It's a very callous sounding thing to say & American to make matters worse.

Been thinking this all day with some of the daft shite on here. Maybe it's just me and I have no right to expect something different from others. YNWA eh?

Jesus, the lad has done alright with limited minutes. He is 6th choice.

He isnt the player of a few years ago by all accounts, hence us getting him so cheap, and he probably cant get back there either.

Its unfair to expect him to come into 3rd string teams, with no midfield, and excel.

Being able to control the ball and pass it isn’t asking that much.

Yep. I can see the talent and the application that just makes it worse. It’s like he just doesn’t believe in himself any more. He doesn’t get into dangerous positions, hesitates when he does have a chance and usually that leads to the chance disappearing, and just doesn’t look cut out for any opposition with physicality or pace.

And I say all that as someone who was beginning to believe in him. Said the same things after the Lille game though, he wants 3 touches where 1 should do.

The best we can hope for is that, if we have to use him, it’s for 5 - 1pm mins when we just need a goal and he can get in the box. He offers virtually nothing out wide.

What I don’t get was everyone was saying how quick he is when we signed him.

I’ve seen milk turn quicker.
