He falls into the perma crock category. Although you can't dispute he was a great player he was earning a load of money and was barely fit. I think he came back in the FA Cup game against Arsenal in January after months out after another muscle injury then missed the rest of the season after hurting his hip.

It's OK being a great player but if you're barely ever able to play you're not much good to the club, especially if you're picking up 200 grand a week.

Thiago finished that game at centre back after Konate was sent off. Diaz was right back.

And gooners were all over social media last month complaining about their backline that finished the game against us.

As a one off that isn't a particularly large amount of money, still not cheap like. But times that by 20-30 and it definitely is. Associated travel costs, even locally, are not cheap either.

Tell me about it, before Covid I used to stay in Lord Nelson for £125 from Friday to Monday, now I pay £220.

For me that’s obviously a much bigger issue than a rise in ticket prices of a few pounds.

Same with trains from London, could usually get a return with Virgin for around £30, with Avanti it’s usually more than £40 just one way now.

My argument earlier was that I think the club has not increased ticket prices much at all the last 10 years.

It is quite something that some people are conditioned to believe that £55 for example to watch a football match is 'value' (That is cost of my ticket for Real Madrid) and £1m a month wages is no bother.

Modern footy i suppose.

some are as much as 61 quid. i know it's madrid and all that, but it's just fucking mental pricing. i am lucky enough that it doesn't much impact me, but i know loads who've stopped going all together or others who won't go the CL as they're just priced out of games that seem to be there for no other reason than prolong the competition to make more money.

Modern life rather than modern football. Although there are very few markets which can exploit loyalty quite so ruthlessly, and rely on people to shit on each other rather than work collectively.

i think football is an exception. i am sure i read the other day if kop tickets had kept inline with inflation from when the kop was sat they'd still be under 10 quid.

Football isn't an exception. Gig tickets are subject to the same. Festivals cost £400, a gig in a small venue for an obscure band will be £35 min.

Like it or not, live football is an entertainment experience and you pay for it, and you're taken for granted because they know if you won't, someone else will.

But Codes still right. In recent years ticket prices have stayed where they are, so broadly it's not been as much of a rip off as it might be. Look at NFL tickets if you want to see where American sports owners would like to be setting prices.

Not sure about the £35 gig thing there. I've been to see bands for under £20 recently, good ones too.

So have I. But I've also been to footie for less than £45 - £60 a ticket too. Just not LFC at Anfield to watch Premier League and CL footie.

I shouldn't have said 'min' but I could probably have said 'typical".

I bought tickets for a comedian yesterday for a show at a tiny venue and id never heard of her before this week, and they were £34 each.

How much is a West End show? £70-£120 last time I was looking.

There's exceptions, but I reckon my general point holds up.

The price of footie has risen well above inflation, obviously, but "entertainment" - on the whole - is a rip off. It's £15 to go to the cinema now in some places.

Aye, agreed although I think everything is pretty much a rip off now, Freddos, heating bills, mortgages, you name it.

Yeah, fair enough, top end entertainment in general is an exception.

I'm not sure about the NFL to be honest. I think what we see in the whole format, is what they would like for the whole of European football. We live in a situation where the NFL is just 32 teams across 50 states and a population of 330m +. We have 20 teams (before you think of the pyramid) across 60m. So it's a different supply and demand dynamic. Despite this when I'm in the US with work I often go, buying from ticketmaster for the Bears, giants or jets in a day or two before and normally pick up tickets for around 100 bucks - not something you'd manage to get from LFC I don't think. It's pretty much no different in price to a typical London club. Ours is less for the same reasons the mancs are.

The Germans seem to manage ticket prices staying affordable. Of course they often lose their star players to richer European Leagues and have less success in European football too. They also have a largely 'one team' league. I mean,it's not as if the English top division will ever have that,eh?

Also worth mentioning that NFL teams only have eight home games a season, so the demand is higher.

yet you can buy tickets on the day of the game for most teams for around face value. maybe it's different after the regular season, but my experience it's neither hard to get tickets or as expensive as you expect.

The average size of an NFL stadium is near double that of the Premier league.

i don't think over the NFL regular season and the PL season there is much difference in ticket sale (I think PL is about 16m v 19m of the NFL). But NFL is also selling tickets in this country and has the population of around 5 times england and wales. There is definitely less supply for the populous in the US compared to here. It is not even close.

It’s worse for music, I am paying  195€ to see Paul Mc Cartney ….
