I always thought he was a Hull City supporter given The Housemartins Album title London 0 Hull 4 and the band being from there.

Sure i read somewhere that title was to do with there being no great bands from London but there being 4 from Hull.

New Robert Smith interview:

The Cure’s Robert Smith: ‘Ticket pricing is a scam. It’s driven by greed’

This desire to do the right thing extends to the hot topic of tickets and how much firms like Ticketmaster and bands like Oasis charge fans. Last year, in an unusual move for an artist, Smith set prices for a US tour and then took Ticketmaster to task over the fees they had added, making the company refund punters.

“I was shocked by how much profit is made,” Smith says of modern ticketing. “I thought, ‘We don’t need to make all this money.’ My fights with the label have all been about how we can price things lower. The only reason you’d charge more for a gig is if you were worried that it was the last time you would be able to sell a T-shirt.

“But if you had the self-belief that you’re still going to be here in a year’s time, you’d want the show to be great so people come back. You don’t want to charge as much as the market will let you. If people save on the tickets, they buy beer or merch. There is goodwill, they will come back next time. It is a self-fulfilling good vibe and I don’t understand why more people don’t do it.

“It was easy to set ticket prices, but you need to be pig-headed. We didn’t allow dynamic pricing because it’s a scam that would disappear if every artist said, ‘I don’t want that!’ But most artists hide behind management. ‘Oh, we didn’t know,’ they say. They all know. If they say they do not, they’re either f***ing stupid or lying. It’s just driven by greed.”

He is absolutely spot on.

Listened to Be Here Now all the way through for the first time in 25 years yesterday.

Its just, well, not very good, is it?

There are a few good ones - D’you know what I mean? is a decent tune and I think My Big Mouth, Stand By Me & Fade In / Out rank alongside with some of their best work, the rest though…

It’s Getting Better Man is good but is about 3 minutes too long, Don't Go Away is so syrupy sweet it should come with a  warning it’ll cause cavities, All Around The World is a failed attempt at Hey Jude, Magic Pie has lyrics even Busted would be embarrassed about and the rest are just entirely forgettable.

Might give Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants tomorrow. I had Familiar To The Millions on the other day, Go Let it Out would have been a b-side had it been written during the Morning Glory years, Who Feels Love would have been discarded entirely and Gas Panic is a hugely underrated tune, I genuinely couldn’t sing a line or two from any of the rest of the songs on the album.

It's terrible. They had one and a half good albums plus that B sides one.  This is why people stopped listening. Other bands are available.

It isn’t terrible, I really like the tunes I listed  then and I still think they are good tunes now. It certainly isn’t a good album though.

However, I’ve currently got SOTSOG on, deary me, what a turkey. Be Here Now sounds like a stone cold classic compared to this.

Gas Panic is still a really good song, Where Did It All Go Wrong? is decent but gets dragged down because it sounds like a few of the other boring songs on the album, most of it is entirely forgettable. Roll It Over is alright I suppose.

Heathen Chemistry next…

Heathen Chemistry isn’t up to much either.

Again, a load of boring forgettable ones, however, Stop Crying Your Heart Out & Little By Little could be ranked in their best songs. Hindu Times and Hung In a Bad Place are alright as well.

Better than SOTSOG, worse than Be Here Now.
