I know journo job is not easy but that was a classic arse licking by Pearce right there. "Anfield officials were cautious when the reports came out about Liverpool's interest" - what, like you reported about our interest after hearing from the same officials, Pearce? Fucking hell.

Yeah but we didn't get beaten by another club for Zubimendi......look, look at Gerrard's example 20 years ago.....also look look, how we signed Robertson & Virgil.....with some quotes from the captain to boot. Classic!

There's no plan B, because there was no plan A. They went in for zubimendi because he didn't want to join, same as caciedo last season. It's just a big stunt. Do people really think after 2 summers looking for someone in this position, the team with the greatest depth of knowledge in world football can only come up with Endo, some kid who doesn't want to leave Spain, some kid who city fucked off and had only won about 3 professional games of football and the lad who'd have cost 110m and never wanted to come here? All the knowledge, data and scouting and that's all they can find? Get to fuck. They just don't want to spend. They have zero ambition and are going through a process of clearing the decks on klopp's highly paid squad to trim the squad down and make it younger and cheaper.

Hughes & Edwards are in for a nice bonus.

Saudi Arabia is aggressively monitoring this with a view to swooping in for an ownership bid.

It does make you wonder if they're preparing us for a sale again. I just think it's more they don't want to pay the wages and just get rid of cost, accept the impact on league position and build up again, cheaper and worse.

Make of this what you will.

The problem with the alternatives is we have made it clear we are looking for a certain profile and there are few who fit that. Zubimendi is someone with solid aerial numbers, he isnt bringing down the size of the team, he can play alone or with someone else and then there is the ability on the ball.

If we make concessions on things like size, height and aerial ability, someone like Palacios would fit the bill and so would more players, but I dont think we would compromise on that. Ederson doesnt have good numbers on the ball. Neither does Hjulmand. Varela is on the smaller side like Palacios and not really a 6.

Wharton is the one who ticks every box but well never sign him. Baleba to me is another one who takes nothing off the table traits wise, but he hasnt performed enough.

No, come on. Im warming to the idea that Caicedo was somewhat of a stunt, but there is no way the club were doing this one to just pretend they are doing something.

I don't think it's that, they have gone so far into the maths book that they can no longer see clearly. Everything is about value and numbers, requirements and ability don't come into to it. A player that makes us better isn't high up on the agenda, the player must be worth more than we pay for him, must be able to perform at x % above amortisation and achieve minimum pxG x xGaxs rates or we're not interested. Selling the club would be like selling Nat Phillips, the price would be based on maximum value against future potential, ie set at a rate nobody is interested in.

Either it's that or Hughes has been had off by his mate. Personally I just think it's a very clean and simple thing to do, bid on the lad knowing full well he doesn't want to come, the agent works with sociedad to get him a double your money contract, and Hughes gets to compare it to Steven Gerrard. What do we get out of it? Some belief from fans we wanted to do something and an agent who owes us one. This is Hughes' mate. So we're to believe he's been fucked by his mate, or they've helped each other out. One of the few things Edwards has ever said is about the importance of relationships with agents. This is one right there.

Surely that number must be dwindling, if it still exists at all.

In this case and most cases, I don't think we should mistake general incompetence and naivety with planned ill intent. We're just stupid.

I couldn’t care less what you think, chief rimmers everywhere making nothing but excuses and sitting on the fucking fence instead of having a bit of integrity and speaking out about the issues.

Im sure they will all form an orderly queue when he’s over next with Linda.

You understand the job of a reporter, right?

To report information they get from first hand sources, or as close to first hand as possible and then make every effort to test the veracity of the information before publishing it to an audience of interested people. This is what Pearce does/has done.

Because it's accurate information, reported with the knowledge of the club's reasoning for making that decision, you get all upset about it. He's not "parroting the line of that lot" he's giving people insight into their thinking and you, dear reader, get to make your own mind up about that information.and then be as pissed off with the owners as you like.

What do you want? Him to flood The Athletic with a load of hysterical shite, the like you've seen on here?

"Speaking out" isn't his job. He's not a representative of the fanbase all upset because they didn't get some new toys for the summer holidays.

Grow up. The bloke doesn't have an agenda, he isn't arse licking anyone. He's doing his job.

Journalists have become lazy and actually stopped being journalists, that’s the problem.

His job as a journalist is not to report what he is being told, it is to ask questions and write about the truth, not put his name to something written by the club itself.

I have dealt with enough journalists over the years to see how it’s unfolded, budget cuts, cuts in jobs and less time to actually do the job of an actual journalist.

I have lost count of the times we have sent in ready made articles with both questions and answers ourselves, because the journalists have not had the time to do their job.

Later on it’s released as an article written by a journalist.

If Pearce was worth his salt as a journalist he would ask questions, he would look at patterns and timelines and he would stop reporting and start investigating and making his own mind up about things.

Not be a mouthpiece for the club l the club has its own press officers for that.

To be fair, Chris said "reporter" not "journalist".

Most football reporters aren't journalists in any meaningful sense. It's also doubtful whether most journalists these days are journalists in any meaningful sense. Partly for the reasons you mention.

Better yet bring Klopp back to be DOF,

No more facing the media, no touchline shenanigans, no more putting up with shoddy officiating. The man is pure football, let him control what goes on at this club.
