Don't want to get involved in the Celtic-Rangers stuff, but I did a walking tour in Dublin a few years ago and the man doing it was talking about the 1916 rising. Basically, at the time, Dublin had the worst tenements in Europe and most of the men were fighting in the war. When the rebels took over the GPO, it impacted the wives getting their money for food, so they kicked off royally with the rebels and mocked them as they were being marched away. The British establishment then made martyrs of them and the rest is history.

 

I don't get why anyone would mock remembering the war dead - chances are nearly all of the Celtic fans had family who fought in it. I hate the British establisment and this city got fucked over because it's an immigrant city with a large majority being of Irish descent, but surely you just quietly remember all of the innocent men and women who died in wars that they did not choose to fight. 

 

Having said that, I do think it's all going ott with the poppy police.
