The Labour government thread

Recommended Posts

What with the completely level playing field and same standard set by the media for the Tories and Labour, this was no doubt daily news for five years.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has admitted that it failed to appoint a chief medical adviser for more than five years, at a time when its policy decisions were causing countless deaths of disabled benefit claimants.

You just don’t get it. It’s not about one party being more corrupt or ‘I declared it.’ It’s about this happening ACROSS THE FUCKING BOARD.

”It was a nice treat for my kids.” No, it was thousands of pounds worth of hospitality for tickets you could have paid for out of your salary. You are fucking over poor people and telling them to tighten their belts and it’s going to be tough, then shoving your fucking piggy snout in the trough, you fucking Poundland Reece-Mogg tribute act.

And who gave you this hospitality so we can gauge what they were after?

Great conference.

Starmer comes across as a massive prick when saying it must be somebody from the 2019 conference.

Starmer was also part of the 2019 conference!

I see the conference have voted to reverse the Winter fuel allowance cuts. It puts Starmer in an embarrassing position now of either defying his own members or having to U turn on one of his very first policies.

Yeah, totally agree. The idea that only parties of protest can be compassionate is just logically reductive. As if only those shouting from the sidelines (or perhaps, spamming links on a forum) are the only ones who can be compassionate. Well, that would mean if those people had got in (perhaps under Corbyn or another) they would have suddenly lost all compassion and good intentions on election night because they'd no longer be protesting but managing. Silly stuff. Really, he's become quite the cock. He's trying to build a following on places like TikTok and knows this sort of stuff (or the stuff Reformers put out) will grab a strong initial audience.

Still better than Owen Jones though, the best friend of the Tories and Reformers. Corbyn needs to get this party of the 'real' Left going ASAP, so they can support something rather than be against something.

Rachel Kyte, Labour's new Climate Envoy is co-chair of the climate advisory board of the Quadrature Climate Foundation. Quadrature as in the hedge fund who donated £4m to Labour at the start of the election campaign and who have major investments in fossil fuel firms. Good to see the philanthropy in action.

Yeah I thought at first that he'll almost definitely ignore them and carry on as usual, maybe he'll try some middle ground thing though and pause it for a year or something similar then try some other way of making it look better.

Sort of like that chicken-coop security firm the fox set up.

The heckler has admitted that he joined the party in 2022.

If I remember rightly, the 1997 Conference voted against tuition fees, but Tony "Education, Education, Education" Blair decided to ignore them.

Lessons in government from a fucking Lib Dem!

Why the pretence that, when the entire country is crying out for change, any party supporting that call is somehow unelectable?

After 14 years of Tory corruption, neglect & incompetence, any decent government should be raging against what has gone before and ripping it to shreds.

In opposition Labour we’re saying  University tuition fees were too high. Now sending out trailers that they may increase them.

My niece got all A’s in her GCSEs. Is in an excellent 6th form college. But her parents aren’t wealthy, so can’t afford university fees. It would be a stark choice for her between crippling debt or further education.

Still, not everyone has access to one of those Alli Cash Machines that Labour MPs do. Keeps the pleb kids out of higher education I suppose.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

It was nice to see the back of the tories but let's be honest, this lot are more of the same with red ribbons. Having said that, I didn't expect much.

This lot have become Tories, while the Tories are becoming Fascists.

Yes, it was always about getting the Tories out first and then going from there.

Primary objective achieved, but I’m already starting to feel a little uncomfortable with what’s replaced them.

I haven’t yet given up hope for something better but that, as they say, might be the death of me.
