Preseason Thread

Very encouraging performance. Especially good down the left - Diaz and the Greek Scouser very lively. Not sure what Trent was doing, and I don't think he was, either. Some nice quick passing, some fine finishing, and some nice little sights, such as Mo making sure he kept up the confidence of the younger players around him.

Sevilla game is the only one I’ve watched from our preseason. Dont think the result or the performance tells much at all really. Game was played at a lower pace and intensity than you’ll get in a league match, against an opponent one week further away from their first league match.

Anyway it’s good to win, and we did produce a few quality moments.

Still thought our high pressing didnt work too well, and as long as they bothered we also had a few problems playing through their high pressing (mostly at the start of the first half to be fair, they didnt bother or manage to press a lot after that)

So nothing much in it for me, Ipswich away will be a totally different thing.

From the individual performances I thought Jota and Diaz were our best players. Also Grevenberch decent at times, and Trent showed his attacking quality on a couple of occasions. Quansah mostly solid and calm, expect him to start in the league. Stephenson from the short time he played looked good. And a brilliant finish from Nyoni, great piece of skill that.

On the more disappointing side it looks more and more to me like Salah isn’t the player he once was. He did produce a few brilliant passes, which seems to be his best attribute now. But his 1 v 1 play and finishing didnt look convincing at all.

Nyoni has top level talent. I wouldn't sell Clark but when you just compare those two, you can see Clark probably wouldn't have a chance and then it gets clearer. He looks better than Bajcetic as well.

He's too young for it to be a Bradley/Quansah situation, but he should be in the first team soon.

You saying he’s a stud. Or potential stud?

Don't think you can learn too much from pre-season friendlies, but if Diaz has finally learned where the goal is, that can only be a good thing.

Might do a Pires, remember him being a bit shit for Arsenal at first. Then again, maybe he was shit all along. Can't remember really.

What do we know about Las Palmas? They are from Gran Canaria, and Vinny Samways played for them for 6 years. Souness never managed them so it's not as though Samways joined for that reason, like so many average Premier League players moving abroad in the late 90s.

Speaking of, it still amazes me that Sampdoria signed Danny Dichio one time. This is a club that won things with Vialli and Mancini up top, and later had Montella and Chiesa as their strike pairing. Kinell, they had Klinsmann and Signori when they signed Dichio!
