Does this cunt actually exist?. He never seems to do anything and there's only about 2 photos of him from about 10 years ago. Like when the FBI have some old photos of some terrorist they haven't been able to track down for years.

He gave klopp and his backroom team some picture frames for their 9 years service. I don't know what else you expect of him.

For something with the importance of the contract talks, I’m sure Hughes has very little autonomy and Edwards is calling the shots.

In terms of setting the budget available for each player, yeah I'd expect so. Doing the actual negotiations? That will be Hughes.

This would explain why Scott's mate got a photo with him, leverage.

I did say when he returned - and, in the knee-jerk manner so common on here, got massive flak for it - that he surely couldn't hope to also resume his image as the ultimate aloof geek in the shadows. But he has. It's quite extraordinary: this is LFC, and, although he has other responsibilities, he is also now, essentially, the man in practical control of the club, and that means that he simply HAS to also be 'encouraged' to accept the social responsibility that comes with that. Being the head geek in the shadows - fine. But being the de facto boss and STILL expecting to avoid absolutely any public engagement? It's insane.

If he truly can't face what just about anyone else, in this and any other industry at that level has to accept, and face the public every now and then ('grow up' is the phrase that comes to mind), then he should have told Richard Hughes he'd have to do it instead. Even that hasn't happened. The pair of them carry on happily in the background, never appearing to accept responsibility for anything, and FSG does nothing. It's laughable. Someone, somewhere, in this byzantine organisation needs to find the decency, or at least the cynical pragmatism, to step forward and actually talk to those who support the club.

Like Mullah Omar who was one of the heads in the Taliban. Said he'd kill anyone if they took his photo as it was un-Islamic There's only one grainy photo of him took kn a lens from about a mile away from him.

Meanwhile the only man who does talk, and is constantly asked about transfers and contracts, was given the job title of "head coach". But as Jürgen said, Slot is the manager. Edwards seems like a jumped up, insecure, little prick.

In the head coach, they've created the perfect situation. Slot is in front of the press and says weekly he knows nothing about contracts and signings. And people accept it because he's not manager. And Hughes and Edwards behave like we still have a manager and there is no regular forum where they're forced to face the press or speak up for what they're responsible for. Just leak stories about half baked players we might be interested in, build a myth that this player is the only one in the world worth pursuing, till they fuck us off and then it doesn't matter as they don't have to face the press. Rinse and repeat. Money balls or something.

That's the football culture in England, it's not a Liverpool thing.

In pretty much every other country, the Sporting Director has a substantial presence, also usually in the media. In England, none of them do anything public.

I would not say it's the football culture in England. It might be what some clubs are trying to get away with currently.

The manager being the all encompassing figure at a club is in English football culture.
