I think he wanted them to stay but given questions over his own future didn't feel comfortable in pushing for new deals and then leaving months after they signed (or when deals were close).

You can take that step back when you have a sporting director tasked with decisions on contracts, but when you've amassed that much power and taken on those responsibilities, with a pseudo-sporting director brought in to do the leg work on the decisions you make, you don't have that luxury.

And if that was the case, which is far from fact, it's understandable as he's human. But he would not have been directly involved in negotiating contracts and deciding when they should be given. These are club assets, these are financial decisions all on the club and it's ownership.

So are transfers or was he not part of that either?

Flirt.

I’m on your side with this.

Ultimately, the points people are making today is nothing different from what has been raked over for months.

We’re top of the league, top of the CL, in the last 4 of the League Cup, it’s Xmas Eve…. Can’t everybody just enjoy a few days? Especially as people are getting angry about something that might not even happen.

We’re 9 days away from it actually happening.

I could see being relaxed in June and letting it play out, but these are some of the best players this club has ever had being allowed to leave for free and it is imminent.

Is that nine day deadline an actual thing or just a fan created time bomb to help them get more annoyed?

Trent isn't sitting their thinking 'in 9 days time I'll know if Real Madrid are interested and what they can offer me' he'll know already, in fact it'll probably form part of his contract negotiations with Liverpool if he hasn't already made his mind up.

I want it sorting ASAP as well. I wish it had been sorted ages ago, unfortunately it hasn’t.

It also might not happen yet.

Things are going better than I think we all anticipated they would be in August, can’t we enjoy it for a few days? Nothing today has added anything to what has been discussed for the past 4 months.

It's the furore in the media that holds the biggest problem for me. As soon as it ticks over to 1st Jan - Sky Sports News becomes the transfer countdown clock with every club under the microscope in regards to who/when x player is signed. With the PL top scorer free to talk to whoever he wants to - the coverage goes into overdrive. We've already had endless stories and constant post-match discussions about it.

It's a news story we just don't need with everything going so well on the pitch.

As per, some fundamentally stupid arguments being put forwards by the usual herbert’s.

I wish they’d all hurry up with it, why don’t we just wait and see how it plays out before getting our briefs in a twist?

You really need to stop using public forums if you don't want to see different opinions, it's just weird now.

There’s an interview where he says he thought it would be unfair to get them to sign new contracts while he was thinking of leaving. The club fucked up by stopping what made us great and giving full power to the manager.

I posted a while back on the contracts thread that all the big clubs are holding their nerve now when it comes to the end of big earners contracts. Madrid chairman said they got fucked with Bale & Hazard and thought never again. Now they wait and see what the other clubs will offer them and if it’s worth competing with, they’ll match it.

These 3 can’t say Madrid etc are offering this while they’re not allowed to speak to them so it’s a wait and see.

We should see this happening loads then, the best players in Europe coming into the last 6 months of their contracts and free to sign for overseas clubs. Any good examples (genuine question)? It doesn't seem to be happening in England and certainly not on this scale at one club.

Kimmich and Alphonso Davies at Bayern.

Don’t think city have been in any rush to get de bruyne & a couple of others who are due up tied down either.

Interesting that there's nowhere near as much fuss about De Bruyne. Maybe cos he's now become an injury prone player so there will be less interest, or maybe because it's not their best three players all in one go.

The point is, clubs don’t want to be getting stuck with ageing players on £15 mill+  a year and their legs drop off.

History’s shown that FSG won’t give any consideration for getting a top class replacement in for an injured player until someone’s off the wage bill

Theres another Afcon coming soon and we’ve seen Mo’s form fall off a cliff after them and do we really think they’ll want to give Trent £350k a week.

He’s been calling the shots since March and it shouldn’t have ever got this far.

Believe you me, if he gets all three signed, I still have a laundry list of complaints to post in here.

The fault precedes the new executives at the club. I don’t have too much of a problem with the situation concerning Virgil and Mo, given their relative ages. The Trent one though is absolutely mind blowing.
