Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

Miguel Delaney is saying Arsenal are paying no loan fee for Sterling and only 50% of his wages. If you want to have 6 forwards for a season, that's so much better than making a commitment for Chiesa. We're going to be talking about him being the Salah replacement next season, and it'll be absurd.

Looking forward for the ITK articles tomorrow saying there are no better LB in the world than Tsimikas and no better CB than Gomez.

At a bare minimum, one additional decent CB would make this transfer window at least acceptable. But we didnt even manage to get that one over the line.

Thought we'd never see a worse transfer window than lambert and balotelli but the cunts have out done themselves.

As if.

We've lost 3 senior players - Thiago, Adrián and Matip - who barely kicked a ball between them last season.  We've signed someone to give us another option up front. The squad has been improved.

Ten years ago we lost the driving force of our team and replaced him with dogshit.  The squad was significantly weakened (just as it had been four years earlier).

This transfer window has been disappointing, but let's not lose all perspective.

How anyone can say we have been strengthened this summer is beyond me.

We have lost Thiago, Matip and Adrian, in addition to a ton of kids that helped add depth to the squad last year: They basically won the Carabao Cup on their own. In addition to coming on or starting in Europe and the PL.

Now they are more or less all gone and we have to pray that our usual bunch of injury prone suspects stay as healthy as they have ever done. Or else we are fucked.

Matip played 14 matches in all competitions last season.

Thiago played 1.

Adrián played 0.

It's hard to argue they'll be missed.

Our most important kids - Bradley and Quansah (and Kelleher?) - are still here.  Clarke has gone, but Morton is back; one out, one in.  Koumetio, Koumas, etc won't be missed.

We clearly haven't been weakened. Whether or not we've been strengthened depends on how Chiesa performs.

Maybe if we had two first teamers who could play 30+ league games instead of Thiago and Matip we might not have finished 3rd with a league cup for our efforts. They weren’t brought in not to play. There presence was missed last season and they should have been replaced.

Agree that we should have properly strengthened after last season. But some on here are claiming we've been weakened, and that's just not true; certainly not like the horror shows of 2010 or 2014.

I’ve been about as supportive and as understanding of FSG as it’s possible to have been, I’ve praised the things they’ve done well, looked at the things they haven’t done well at in context and been understanding, for a long time I have fully supported and endorsed sensible practice in the transfer market (the type of practice that saw us wait for VVD, spend big on Alisson funded in part by Coutinho) which avoided spending our way into oblivion like United and Chelsea have done - spending badly is worse than not spending at all - but we still spent good amounts on the right player, with an astonishing hit rate. All of that I was and still am fully supportive of, and I acknowledge that they run the club as a business brilliantly, I’m glad they don’t overspend and that we research the fuck out of everything. However, these past few years have been different. We have had so much money come into the club, we have had a clear and obvious need in certain positions, and we still haven’t got the job done. They’re not beyond criticism. Even fully accepting that this summer was one of change, we knew for ages that Klopp was going. It is not at all difficult to have drawn up a list of four or five very good, mobile, talented defensive midfielders. Zubimendi falling through after he gave his word… no problem, shit happens. What doesn’t happen is saying ‘oh, erm. No more targets then’. No, that’s shit. Put a big amount on the table for somebody else. Not make a whimper about Varela 15 minutes before deadline. If the deal collapsed on ZubiTuesday then on Wednesday we should have had our hand up the kilt of Port or Atalanta.

If they can’t fund big transfers, then move on. I accept it’s not easy to improve on our team when considering all aspects of a player, but when you fail, season after season, It’s embarrassing. Sort it the fuck out. It’s not easy, but it’s not fucking impossible either. We are one of the very top, biggest clubs in the world. We have spending power, and lots of room within PSR rules. We are starting to lag behind and lose momentum. And if you don’t sort Trent out, then suck a bag of dicks. Mo and VVD for another two years too. And Alisson.

Stop fucking about.

Is it Kevin Maguire, the football finance guy the nerds all wank over?

At the start of the window said we had £200m+ available to spend and that was before the reduction in salaries of Thiago, Matip, Adrian and Klopp plus the sales we’ve made as well.

The owners are just cunts.

The squad isn't bad but you can't pretend Matip and Thiago weren't part of it just because they were injured. For me it boils down to two areas, are you happy with our 4 central defenders as a unit and likewise defensive midfield.

Van Dijk, Konate, Quansah and Gomez.

Gravenberch, Endo, Morton (you could argue MacAllister).

There's a lot you can pick holes with there for me.

Under one of our greatest Managers ever we finished behind an utter wank United side multiple times, it wasn't down to Klopp losing his ability it's about not being backed when he needed to be backed. Run our players into the ground because the options either weren't good, weren't there or weren't available because we bought crocks. VVD couldn't of made it clearer the side needs more options. We lack ambition. I'd accept all the new manager, assessing what's right all the excuses made if this just wasn't our usual fucking transfer window. Klopp did with us what he did with Dortmund he elevated its players/team and won them titles all without FSGs genius, he came here and did the same in an even harder league. FSG better hope they have hit a winner with Slot because he will be the difference maker not the crumbs and excuses they peddle or the nerds who know better.

They get zero fucking point for  any contract extensions either. Their incompetence always seems to stem from trying to rinse a bit more money for themselves.

We gassed out at the end of last season and fell off a cliff. Clearly we have less players available than we had last season. We likely have more games with the new CL format. So, yes, we have been weakened.

McTumble to Napoli is an odd one.

Great move for mctominay, he's a much better player than utd fans gave him credit for.

I love seeing British based players trying their luck abroad. Best of luck to him.
