Ye agree with that. In fairness to Trent you couldn’t argue with him leaving us in the summer to go to Madrid with the lack of ambition being shown by the club.

Wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see Virgil joining him with Klopp coming in as manager there next summer.

Fulham agree deal with Palace for Andersen around 30ml. Newcastle going to have to pay big to get Geuhi if they sell at all. We should tell Newcastle the Gordon deal is in place or no Gomez

If they sell Andersen they need Gomez either way.

They never itemise the wage bill but the well reported wages of the first team always used to be between £160m to £180m. The overall wage bill in the accounts of 2022-23 is £373m. The player wage bill was around £161m that season.

And it’s near enough what you’d expect. I’ve always felt that other clubs wage bills for the talent aren’t far off what they declare. Our stewards must be getting 10 grand a game to take up that much slack if these aren’t drawing out more than a mill a year per director.

Considering how injury prone Konate is we are going to need 2 centre backs if Gomez off, otherwise we are going to have a run of games where only VVD and Quansah will be available.

Ideally we need one that's ready to push the other three for a starting place and a younger one that's signed for the future.

I can't see that.. klopp's has always said he didn't want to manage where he can't speak the language and he doesn't speak Spanish. So unless he's wasting his year off tapping away on Duolingo, that seems most unlikely. Madrid is Alonso's job. Klopp I reckon will do something that doesn't involve managing players on a day to day basis.

I've long thought what we put in our accounts as wages are in fact what would now be regarded as UEFA squad costs - so wages, amortisation, coaching staff & agent fees. We don't completely break down wages costs or what's in or out, but if you use websites like sportsrac as a guide and add in those other costs, they come to roughly the ball park of what's in the accounts. Certainly closer than any other method I've been able to work out.

So earlier in the summer the storyline was that Newcastle tried to push Gordon onto us to get Quansah. Then they changed the story and said it was Gomez. Then today Ornstein is saying we bid £75m for Gordon, and agreed to sell Gomez to them for £45m but Newcastle pulled out of the deal.

If that's true, then we wanted Gordon even though we already have the front five. In other words, we wanted to go into the season with six forwards or we were selling Diaz (which I never thought was likely as Barca can't afford him). So why don't we want six forwards now?

If Gomez leaves, and Van den Berg goes, thats £65m plus the £25m for Carvalho and £10m for Clark, but the £10m or so we got in sell on fees for Solanke & Alberto. £110m plus maybe another £20m for Morton.

If we don't go back in for Gordon then what the fuck are we doing? I realise Newcastle could refuse to sell now because they don't need to, but if he kicks up a stink then that would change things surely?

If Ornstein is right and we instigated those talks for Gordon, then I think it's weird if we don't revisit it.

Gomez, I was forgetting Matip isn't here now and Gomez moved up a spot! I'm so used to saying he's fifth choice because he was.

The thing we have to think about though, the 2 in front of him, one is a permi-crock and the other is a kid who's still learning the game. I for one don't want to see Gomez move up to VVDs partner full time, which doesn't seem much of a stretch for it to happen. We absolutely have to get someone in if Gomez goes and I would go as far as to say it should be VVDs partner and quansah should be seeing himself as Virgil's replacement. Konate should be figuring out how to stay fit and keep the new guy out.

I dont know why we would want Guehi. He gets it done at a decent level, but there is nothing about him that is great.

I thought he looked good for a while at Palace when I'd see him,  and was quiet surprised when I saw how bad his stats are for heading. But watching him at the euros I thought he was exposed quite a bit. Noway he's good enough to replace Virgil long term. Neither is Inacio

Scalvini is one I'd watch, though he's right footed.

Be interesting if the new medical team can keep Konate fit. I've noticed a few of our players look to be a bit bigger and stronger. Might be a age thing and them filling out. Trent looks like he's following Mo fitness regime. Not sure if it's true but read somewhere that Klopp teams didn't like much weight training

Nowhere near good enough. Decent player, nothing special. I wouldn't take him over Gomez, who is fifth choice.

Completely agree. for reasons I dont need to get into, I have paid close attention to him when watching Palace.

His reputation is far better than his ability. Never impressed me, thats also why I said earlier in the summer Id rather take Andersen, even if he lacks pace.

If the centre back market is so dry we’re considering  spending £80m on Guehi may I suggest we don’t? I’d much sooner take Anderson for £30m as a 4th choice centre back. He’s like a Temu VVD and would be absolutely fine in cup games and covering in league games. Keep an eye on Dean Huijsen at Bournemouth in the meantime.

My dream window is obviously Jazzy B, Tony G, Ait Nouri and a DM. Maybe put a big bid for DCL on deadline day then pull out at the last minute just to rub it in.

Au contraire, is it because you like like him?

I thought it was the opposite of that. Klopp liked them to bulk up.
