Sunak has given lab a very easy to use attack line now....just keep reminding everyone at every opportunity that Sunak lied....

Conservatives' £2,000 claim not verified, says IFS

The Conservatives' claim that a Labour government would raise taxes by £2,000 is under the microscope this morning. So what does the leading economic research group, the Institute for Fiscal Studies, have to say?

"We don't know what either party will do on tax over the next Parliament," says IFS director Paul Johnson, adding that there are several things worth noting.

"First, both appear to be committed to one substantial tax rise, that is freezing personal tax allowances and thresholds for the next three years. That will raise £11 billion per year.

"Second, the £2,000 per working household that the Conservatives are suggesting that Labour is committed to is not independently arrived at or verified. It has been calculated based on Conservative Party assumptions about Labour's spending plans. It is also worth saying that it is cumulated over four years.

Starmer has to not fall into the 'they go low, we go high' bullshit that Corbyn tried against Johnson.

It just doesn't work, the majority of British people do not seem to appreciate considered arguments, they are attracted to bluster and rudeness.

In true TLW tradition, the first time £2000 is mentioned he should call Sunak a lying, little hedge fund prick.

Should have just said - "Pics or GTFO."

Starmer should start his next opening speech with "Rishi Sunak has beans on a full English. Let that deviancy sink in."

Just realised Rayner is going up against Farage on the seven candidate debate on Friday. Definite chance for some candidate-on-candidate violence if Farage is his usual boorish, mysoginistic self.

Beans are food of the gods, there's no way that little prick Sunak has had a baked bean in his life.

Beanz rulez. Anti-beaners beware my wrath.

Half the gimps would eat that up, literally.

Ask him if he has ever been to Titty City and if it is true he uses a booster seat.

Then move onto cheeses.

The Reform manifesto is out. Zero costing. And the nasty stuff is tucked away at the bottom. Apart from asylum, obviously.

Without slashing government waste, it comes in at about 2,000 per capita. That magic figure again.

They've found £156 billion of "government waste"?

Maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age, but I think these people might be full of shit.

It's just fantasy. Getting stig back in to work??????

Are you obsessed with his employment status? Feels like you've mentioned it 3 or 4 times in the last week alone. Not sure how it's relevant to anything.

Same lines....same lies.

They do this in such regimented fashion.

A Treasury minister is rejecting Labour claims that Rishi Sunak lied about the party's tax plans.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Laura Trott, denies voters have been misled and insists independent analysis had identified a black hole in Labour's spending plans.

She tells reporters: "What is absolutely clear is that due to independent analysis Labour have a £38bn black hole in their policies.

"That will lead to £2,000 in extra taxes for every family up and down the United Kingdom.

"This is underpinned overwhelmingly by Treasury analysis so if people think Labour are going to win this election they need to start saving."
