That beaut on bbc live blog today was saying Palmer is without doubt the best player in the PL.

Think it was Clinton Morrison.

I've way stopped getting annoyed at this. I know Salah is by fucking miles the best player in the league, I don't need fucking Paul Merson or Clinton Morrison to confirm that for me.

My dad has said for about 30 years that he doesn't understand why teams don't leave four men on the halfway line, because teams would have to keep five back to cover them and the box would be less crowded.

In Arsenal's case, this might actually be the way to go. It's the numbers in the box, all running around, pushing, pulling, blocking, that causes the problem rather than them being amazing in the air.

It would be fascinating to see what Arsenal did in their next game if they got a corner and the opposition just left four players up the field.

They'd just leave players in positions where it would be impossible to risk leaving players back.

Edit I'm not sure if this is serious

Dad, is that you?

He's sometimes a wise man. It's a game of chicken, take Everton v Wolves. Wolves have 4 or 5 little lads not  capable of winning the ball. Dyche is fundamentally a defensive coach, so is Arteta. If Wolves leave 4 up front Dyche is leaving 6 back. Corner taker plus the keeper means they have 4 in the box. Dawson v Tartowski is an even battle, but if it's Tartowski v Semedo because Ashley Young has blocked off Dawson then that's not a fair match up.

We do it with our u11's, instead of having lads that are afraid to head it anyway marking someone in the box, get them up the pitch and create space for our lads that want to attack it. Cross has to be much more precise because hes got half the targets to hit.

It's funny how Arteta was being hailed as 'Peps Deciple' yet he plays a style of football more in line with Tony Pulis and Sam Alladyce!

I think where it comes from is arteta wants guardiola's control, low risk, sideways shite. And while he's been given plenty to spend, they've not quite been able to do the shit city have done, dominate the market and pay people off the books. So it means he just doesn't have the quality city have had to play that style for years (and the clear advantages guardiola had in Germany and Spain). So their answer to that, is not giving up any control to try to force the play more (like spurs are failing miserably with), it's to dyche it. It's a lemonade approach to solving champagne problems.

I don't think it's a mad shout at all. I was telling people for years there should be someone lying down behind the wall, and everyone though it was nuts. Mind you, I also used to say we should have the small players hanging from the goalposts on corners. Blue sky thinking.

Everybody wants to be Guardiola in this day and age. Luckily only he can do it and the rest make a mess of it. Even our manager wants to be Guardiola but he inherited a squad from the only manager with a winning record against Guardiola. So he's been very clever to harness that and just add bits of his to a winning formula.

I'm not sure every manager wants to be guardiola, but it's certainly a trend. I've no doubt our manager wants to play like that (or wanted to when he arrived). I think only time will tell if he can adjust his plan - in game we've been at our best this season on the counter, or Mo magic, or both. It's been very klopp. But it's the same players, so it maybe doesn't even matter at times what the manager wants, they've developed under klopp, so carry it with them. We've not even played half a season yet.

I don't care too much about you can't say this or don't say that. The lead we've built with the opposition we have means one thing.

It's fucking madness and why no team in the history of football has ever done it. Leave 4 people as far up the pitch as you want. I will leave 4 near the corner taker so you have to run back. What the fuck is going on here?

And that attitude is why you'll never be a maverick football thinker. I almost pity you for your lack of vision.

It would be a battle of nerve.

One team might be able to easily play around the other, however one miss hit pass or clearance and the defending team are all of a sudden attacking four on one. Almost certain goal.

If I remember correctly then Guardiola has been doing this a few times earlier in his career.

I cant remember the game I noticed it, but I think they had big injury problems at the back against a team deadly on set pieces .

It worked as well.

If you left 4 players up the pitch, they might leave 5 back but a few would stand Infront of you not behind you. Meaning anything that gets headed away they'd pick up and totally control the edge of the 18 yard box.

Also the more space you leave in the box the easier the delivery becomes, you'd have a much easier chance to score because players can attack space easier.

And why would teams cross the ball at that point? You'd just play short corners, and then one or two of the players you left back would then run forwards  into the wide open spaces because you have the ball in calm possession.

It would only work if you crossed the ball and the keeper caught it and could instantly kick it or throw it out. It wouldn't work, it's so easy to work around.

I saw something on their XG outside of set pieces yesterday, they are something like 13th in the league for XG from open play.

They clearly are relying too much on them.

I’ll be interested to see how they do against The Ev on Saturday. I expect Arsenal to win, I’m not sure they’ll be able to bully The Ev at set pieces like they do other clubs.

This one wants Arteta sacked.

Sapient Hawk

Avian supremacy now & forever!!

Country:Saudi Arabia
I sincerely hope not 1 pence is made available to Tets this January.

He won't do what's needed & buy an offensive player. Let him finish the season with whatever dignity he has left & bring in a new manager with fresh ideas in the summer.

They call him Tets?

Fuck me. That's the worst nickname I've ever heard.
