Their far post corner drill is a real weapon though. Somebody needs to come up with a way of nullifying it, because it's a huge advantage of theirs.

If the refs/VAR paid as much attention to the corners/freekicks as they do trying to rule out goals for offsides or penalties they would t be a issue. Watch today's one and the nudge in the back(I think it's Bassey) he's the front defender on the clump of players the ball is going to. It's not much contact but it's enough that he doesn't get off the ground. Same with the goal vs the mancs when Timber nudges the man at the front who then can't gey the header.

Also see the Arsenal player backing into the defender to push him and the keeper back.

It's every set piece. But like time wasting its on the refs to end it and they haven't for 18 months now in Arsenal case

30 hours of Arsenal Fan TV content about how this is a good result for Arsenal and a bad result for Liverpool's title hopes to look forward to this week.

Or some fucking madness of why Saka's effort shouldn't be given offside.

Yeah, but they have absolutely nothing else to their game. They just don't look like scoring until they get the chance to do that. People will work it out and no doubt they'll have something else. As I say, it's dycheball. He's made a career of giving a way giving up as little as possible and looking to out set piece the other team.

I think Odegaard is a cracking player, everything good that they do goes through him. Mark him out the game and bosh.

Same with Palmer at Chelsea.

Yeah Jones shut him down completely at Anfield. Palmer is a superb player but very much a flat track bully at the moment, though I'm sure that'll change at some point. To think City sold sold him because they bought Doku

Odegaard can be good, but he's very happy to do the arteta play it safe approach. While Palmer is probably Chelsea's best player, they do at least try to make things happen beyond falling over to win free kicks.

Take Fulham today, if they leave Smith Rowe, Traore and Lucic up front then Arsenal need 4 to drop back. The first two of those aren't winning a header in a million years but the lads that come back with them might have done. It creates more space for the keeper to come and collect too. Less likely to get away with all the grabbing and blocking too. Certainly worth trying if your Wolves or Brighton, one of the smaller teams.

At almost all corners in the Prem there is holding, blocking, obstruction, you name it, it goes on. I think the Arsenal set piece coach’s approach is based on the fact that referees allow this, maybe thinking it’s six of one and half a dozen of the other, and so they basically deliberately foul with impunity to gain advantage.
It relies too on excellent delivery from the kicker and they’ve obviously practised hard to get the consistency they get.

Failing the referees pulling them up, one way is fight fire with fire. Block their runs by standing in front of them, if they hold then you hold, expect they’ll try and push you but do it to them first, that kind of thing. Of course you then run the risk of getting penalised yourself, but if referees aren’t pulling them up, why should they pull you up?
Another way might be, as No2 suggests, is to play the numbers game with them.

If you put three players up the pitch then they’ll have to, at least, match that with defenders.

Add the goalkeeper and corner taker and you have an 8-6 advantage in the box. 8-5 if they put 4 defenders back. And, with them likely having to put one or both centre backs back with your forwards, they lose heading ability that they’ve relied upon thus far to convert their corners (Gabriel and/or Saliba) and this should mean less clutter and more space for your keeper to dominate his 6 yard box.

All theory of course, but I’m sure coaches up and down the country are working on solutions as we sleep.

That beaut on bbc live blog today was saying Palmer is without doubt the best player in the PL.

Think it was Clinton Morrison.

My dad has said for about 30 years that he doesn't understand why teams don't leave four men on the halfway line, because teams would have to keep five back to cover them and the box would be less crowded.

In Arsenal's case, this might actually be the way to go. It's the numbers in the box, all running around, pushing, pulling, blocking, that causes the problem rather than them being amazing in the air.

It would be fascinating to see what Arsenal did in their next game if they got a corner and the opposition just left four players up the field.
