Thought I read than a ban could be part of tbe punishment, could be wrong

Fair enough if that's on the table..... It seems to me if they have their income restricted, their ability to cheat the sponsorship deals and the thinness of their squad currently, those conditions will seem like a transfer ban, because they won't be playing CL football either. If I was punishing them, it would be low on my list of punishments. I don't see how it fits the crime.

Historically I can't think of any transfer bans that weren't related to transfer irregularities. I've had a quick Google and there's not much out there, this was the best I could find quickly and it's 5 years old. But these are all transfer irregularities that have triggered the punishment.

Yes, they've curtailed a lot of their spend and cashed in on the academy big time since all the investigations started.

Our strategy to just let players run their contract down is not a good idea when it comes to net spend numbers.

Yeah, I said recently in the other thread that creating the conditions where key players and their representatives are incentivised to engage in brinkmanship seemed a short-sighted strategy.

It doesn't make sense whichever way you look at it.

I reckon the Trent situation is just a fuck up though. Gordon went AWOL, there was nobody else left but klopp and it became too late and incentivised that behaviour.

Vvd and Salah are different cases, but I reckon FSG/Hughes /Edwards view heading into the mid 30s the club would always have the stronger hand and can offer 1 year deals with less than a year to go. And if we're playing a percentage game (and you have to assume we do considering how Henry made his money and pretty much what data driven decision making is), you suck up when you get it wrong, because you know you want get all of them right.

I think what we're seeing play out right now is maybe we're not looking at enough data to get these big ones right (or maybe we are and all the fans are wrong). I genuinely think most of the other frees they've done in recent years (going back to Can), they believe they've called it right.

It's all very dramatic. Yes, they've dropped a few points but it's the start of November & they have big players coming back in.

I wouldn't write Arsenal off at this point personally.

Not sure anyone is seriously writing them off. Just enjoying the fans losing their shit after 2 years of them talking like they created football like they used to under Wenger
