Morning person or night owl?

Me and the Mrs are polar opposites. She tires easily at night but is up with the larks. I need a defibrillator to get me up before 8am and am generally fucked up until about half nine. My appetite and brain don't kick in until around then.

I'm wide awake late evening though and I ideally like to stay up late watching telly. My ideal body clock cycle is probably bed at 1am and up at 10am, but with work I force myself to go up about half ten and eventually drift off.

A mate told me once, dunno if it's true, that this is an evolutionary thing to ensure someone was always awake around the campfire, that we're always either one or the other.

Used to be up till 2 most nights but now I get up at 5 (started it during Covid to get out walking to keep healthy and mentally sane as much as I could) and it’s just a habit I’m now used to. Go to bed about 10.

Stay up late on a Friday and Saturday and get out of bed about 9ish of a weekend.

Good mix I think.

Similar routine to that.

All kicked in when we had the kids. Missus stayed up later with the kids and then I got up early to swap out. Head to bed at 10.30 every night, up at 6.15. Even at weekends, which is shit.

One of life's pleasures is going to bed really early.

I tend to through the week unless I'm watching the unmentionable or having a beer. Takes me ages to switch off. been home a lot lately and I get up to feed and walk the dog then I'm back in bed by half 8 and sleeping until half 11. Not good for the soul at all I don't think but I'm almost always tired.

I used to be a night owl until I moved into my own place and had to start doing stuff for myself.  Ever since then & more so since I met my wife I'm an early bird.  Up at 6AM (ish) every weekday, get up at same time as her on a Saturday (7:15AM)  to get her a coffee before she goes to work & then start my day.  Even on a Sunday I'm usually up before 9AM and get out on my bike for an hour or so.

Ever since I had Glandular Fever in my early 20's I find it very easy to sleep, much to her annoyance.  Head meets pillow and that's pretty much it until morning unless the cats wake me.

I'm an insomniac (fairly mild), but for me, especially in Autumn/Winter in the UK, it's essential. Until I had lived somewhere warmer for a few years, and then come back for a bit, I didn't really appreciate how depressing cold/wet/grey Winter evenings could be. Certainly if you're not rich enough to live in a big, well insulated house, and afford to turn the heating on.

I'm not great in the morning but I do go to the gym most days between 8 and 9. Its mainly because I can be a right lazy bastard and will come up with loads of excuses not to go if I don't get it out of the way early.

She's more of a morning person but is ready for bed at 10 and needs at least 9 hours.

Struggle to keep my eyes open past 10 o’clock now. Even after having a quick 20 mins doze on the couch when I get home from work which used to ensure I’d be wide awake till all hours.

Think a lots to do with the kids getting older and moving out that’s helped there.  The house stress levels (and bills) have plummeted now.

I’ve been enjoying getting up early and taking the dog for a walk but I’ll reassess this soon now the cold mornings are in the post.

Does getting up for a slash an hour before the alarm count?

Fuck getting old.

That started kicking in for me over the last few years. Now I stop drinking any liquid at all from around 6.30 in the evening and it gets me through to the morning. If I go for a few pints then that fucks that up of course.

I like being in bed by midnight these days.  Travelling fucks me up.  I flew up to Manchester last night - flight delayed so didn’t get to the hotel until 11.30 up for an 8am start this morning, flown back on 8.15 flight from mcr just now, currently on Heathrow express and making my way over to Aldgate as I’ve decided I’m staying in town rather than drag my ancient arse home to Guildford tonight just to be in London in the morning.  I need sleep.

I have to drop my missus off at work for 6 am around 3 or 4 times a week and pop to the gym on one or two of those days, but I have a nap mid morning for half an hour which helps. Night times last no longer than around 10pm max before I am fucked. Medication doesn't help keep me awake though.

In summary,I'm an early bird but a fucked one!
