Wataru Endo Welcome to Liverpool

I think the problem here is that signing for a massive club but playing and playing from a less well known and exposed international side has extra pressures put onto those players. See Salah. Players are walking endorsements and commercial property. Everybody in every event wants a piece of them to help elevate that competition. The Olympics is shit now that it openly allows full time professional sportspeople into it's events.

We have and have and had a few of them. In addition to those you've pointed out, Robertson, Dom, mane - lads who can't skip anything on the international front.

He’s fine. I wouldn’t want him starting in midfield against a top six team or in the knockout CL stages. But he’s more than capable of covering for our first choice midfielders against weaker teams and as seen last night he can do a job at centre back too. If anything he’s been underused this season.

He was Beckenbauer in the first half last night: nominally a CB, but really a playmaker.

(Admittedly, Beckenbauer did it against better opposition.)

It was like a follow on from Saturday. Slot obviously liked how that worked with 10 men and gave it another crack.

Posting this here as well as it might get lost in the Soton match thread.

But Endo at CB is a role he should be very used to, its the position he has played the most during his career.

That was mainly in the Japanese league though. I'm not sure he has the physicality to do it in the Premier League but he's ok for the odd game like last night.

Loved his performance last night - getting on the ball and pushing into midfield in the first half, back to the wall and beating somebody 6’7 in the air in the second half.

It’s a shame he seemingly isn’t what Slot wants in a midfielder, he’s a decent and likeable player.

I thought he was very good last night - even more so considering he's had next to no game time, and he played in a number of positions.  If that had been Curtis or MacAllister putting in that performance it would have been lauded to the hilt.  In this case, the stats do reflect the performance.

He’s a really good squad player to have. Did well last night.

Great attitude, too; for a senior international to be made a fringe player and respond so professionally seems pretty rare.

Yes it was, the point is he has had experience from that role for several years.

If it was a different league it does not really matter that much when it comes to positioning, when to fall back, when to push up etc, etc.

His height and lack of pace is obviously a bit of a disadvantage, but he’s 1,78 m, not 1,70.

Martinez at the mancs is only 1,75m.
